Embark Studios, the company behind Arc Raiders, had to release a fix for a problem that caused players’ private Discord messages to be saved on their computers.
The problem was initially discovered by Timothy Meadows, who detailed it in a blog post. He found that private direct messages between players in the game Arc Raiders were being saved as unencrypted text in a local game file.
So, I found out there was a problem with Arc Raiders on PC – if you were using Discord while playing, your messages were being saved without you knowing! Luckily, the developers at Embark figured it out pretty quickly. Their Community Lead, Ossen, let everyone know that our info wasn’t actually being shared with anyone, which was a huge relief.
She reassured users on Discord that their private data remained on their devices and that Embark never accessed or stored it.
The issue was completely resolved on March 5th, so players can now reconnect Discord without any problems.

Discord fixed the problem quickly, but has promised to collaborate more with developers to prevent similar issues in the future.
A spokesperson told Eurogamer that they recently discovered a problem affecting some Arc Raiders players. This issue stemmed from debugging tools meant for developers who were working on and testing how the game connects with social features.
A recent issue caused some players’ Discord information from the game to be saved directly on their devices, meaning someone would need access to the device or its files to view it. Embark has quickly released a fix, and we’re helping developers and strengthening the Discord Social SDK with extra security measures.
Discord is popular with gamers for voice chat, so news of a recent privacy issue understandably caused worry. The problem has been resolved, but you can disconnect the integration if you want an extra layer of security.
