Tinder will pay $60.5 million to resolve a lawsuit claiming it unfairly charged some users higher prices for its subscription services.
In 2015, Allan Candelore filed a lawsuit in California claiming Tinder illegally charged users 29 and older higher prices for its premium features, like Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold, than younger users.
The lawsuit claims Tinder charged older users higher prices than younger users for the same features, using a pricing system that discriminated by age. This practice, according to the complaint, violated California laws against business discrimination and unfair competition.
The lawsuit claims Tinder is unfairly charging different prices based on how old you are. According to the complaint, Tinder openly admitted to this tiered pricing system and justified it by saying it simply increases their profits.
Although the dating app maintained it hadn’t done anything wrong, it reached a multimillion-dollar settlement to end the lengthy legal dispute.

Tinder might owe you money after settling lawsuit for $60.5M
Over 260,000 Tinder users should qualify for a payout from a recent settlement. The amount each person receives will be based on how much they spent on Tinder’s paid features during a specific timeframe.
This settlement mainly includes California residents who are 29 or older and subscribed to Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold starting March 2, 2015. Some California residents aged 28 and older who purchased these subscriptions beginning March 2, 2016, might also be eligible.
If you’re eligible, you’ll need to confirm your membership and provide payment information on the official settlement website. You can choose to not participate or raise concerns until April 8, 2026. If you want to receive your payment, please confirm your details by August 18, 2026.
A court hearing to finalize the settlement is set for May 20, 2026, in Los Angeles County Superior Court. If the settlement is approved, it will conclude a lawsuit that has been ongoing for almost ten years.
Tinder and similar dating apps have previously received complaints about the cost of their premium features and subscriptions.
In 2023, Tinder introduced a premium, invite-only membership called ‘Tinder Select’ priced at $499 per month. Subscribers got special perks like the ability to message anyone, even without a match, and increased visibility to highly popular profiles.
Earlier this year, Grindr launched an AI subscription called “Edge” that costs up to $6,000 a year.
