Tokyo Metro turns entire trains purple for Ditto Pokemon Pokopia collab

To celebrate the release of the new Pokemon Pokopia game on Nintendo Switch 2, Tokyo Metro has decorated one of its most crowded train lines to look like the Pokemon Ditto!

From March 2nd, the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line will be transformed by a fun collaboration with the Pokémon Ditto! The purple train line will feature designs of the adorable, shape-shifting monster for a limited time.

This is the first time the Hanzomon Line has ever featured an entire train wrapped in advertising, according to a recent announcement from Tokyo Metro.

Special Pokemon-decorated trains will be running in Japan until March 15th. If you’re in the area, you might have a chance to ride one!

The Pokémon Ditto is featured in the Hanzomon line because its Japanese name, Metamon, includes the sound “mon,” which is also in “Hanzomon.” Plus, Ditto’s purple color perfectly matches the line’s signature shade, making it a natural fit for this real-world collaboration.

Okay, so I just saw pictures of this Pokémon collab, and it’s insane! They’ve totally decked out a train and station to look like Ditto. The handrails are shaped like Ditto, everything inside the train is purple – the seats, the floor, you name it – and there are huge Ditto signs hanging everywhere. They even painted the station platforms purple to match! It’s a Ditto fan’s dream come true.

From March 2nd to 8th, look for special themed advertisements at Oshiage (Skytree-mae), Hanzomon, and Shibuya train stations. A few of the Shibuya displays will stay up a little longer, until March 15th.

This year has seen several real-world partnerships for Pokemon. Back in February, The Pokemon Company announced a collaboration with All Nippon Airways, a Japanese airline, to create special Pokemon-decorated planes as part of the Pokemon anniversary festivities.
