Moon Puzzle Box Solution in Resident Evil Requiem

The heart of the gameplay in Resident Evil Requiem centers around playing as Grace inside the Rhodes Hill Care Center. Unfortunately, the center is locked down, and the only escape route is a front door that’s missing its keycard slot.

If you look closely at the door, you’ll notice it needs items representing the sun, moon, and stars. Like many puzzles in Resident Evil, you’ll need to find several items and combine them to move forward.

Okay, so I figured out I need three pieces of quartz from these floating islands to get off Rhodes Hill. The problem is, they’re all hidden inside these tricky puzzle boxes, and it’s up to me to solve them and grab the quartz!

Thankfully, there are a few ways you can get the Moon Quartz.

Where to Find the Moon Puzzle Box

Make Sure You Have Inventory Space

You’ll find the Moon Puzzle Box – the container for the Moon Quartz – inside the Chairman’s Office. Be aware that you won’t be alone in there, but don’t worry about being in the dark. There’s a light switch, and unlike most zombies, the Chairman doesn’t mind if it’s on.

What’s great is there are several ways to open the box, and you can even do it without moving from where you are.

How to Open the Box

Pencil Method

The most straightforward way to open the Moon Puzzle Box is by using a pencil. While you’re in the Chairman’s Office, look closely at the desk – you’ll find a pencil there. This is how the puzzle designers intended players to solve it.

Okay, so I remember when I first entered the office, someone totally tore a page out of that Torn Journal. Luckily, it looks like we can still read what was written on it! All we need to do is grab the pencil and rub it over the paper – it’s like a hidden message thing. Pretty cool, right?

Doing so will reveal the code for the puzzle box: Moon, Sun, Star, Moon.

This will also give you the Chairman’s Note, which is one of the files that you need to collect.

Picture Method

Okay, so if you’re stuck and want to skip this room for now, there’s actually another way to open that puzzle box! You can find a clue in the Lead Researcher’s Office. Head over to the desk and you’ll see a few pictures you can look at. The important one is the one in the fancy, ornate frame – that’s the one you need to check out!

Grab the picture frame and take a closer look. You’ll notice it shows the Moon Puzzle Box with the solution already visible in the background. Once you see it, simply go back downstairs and copy the code from the picture.

Pamphlet Method

This might be a lucky way to discover the code, but it’s how I originally solved the puzzle, so I think it’s valid. If you recall the Care Center Pamphlet from the beginning of the game, it mentions three board members, referring to them as the sun, moon, and star.

The code arranges the options in the order of Moon, Sun, and Star – matching the first three buttons. Given it’s the Moon Puzzle Box, it makes sense to assume the final button should be Moon as well.

This offers a fun way to solve an easy puzzle, and it brings you closer to escaping danger.
