Several of the people who originally made Guitar Hero are now working on a new music game called Stage Tour. Get ready to play plastic guitar again soon!
It’s been more than two decades since the first Guitar Hero game appeared for PlayStation 2, launching a whole new genre of rhythm games. The game quickly became incredibly popular, spawning many sequels and variations – does anyone else remember DJ Hero?
RedOctane, the team famous for creating the at-home rock concert experience, has reunited after twenty years as RedOctane Games. They recently shared details about their new project.
Stage Tour feels like a modern take on the rhythm games many of us enjoyed in the past. It has a familiar look – colorful notes descend on-screen, and you play along by hitting the right buttons at the right time, just like with those older games and their plastic instruments.
Guitar Hero lives on as Stage Tour
The new trailer, though short, offers our first glimpse of gameplay, featuring the iconic music cables visible as a band performs on stage.
However, the game’s description offers some additional details. Developers are hinting at a return to the classic Guitar Hero gameplay, but with fresh features, game modes, and a wide variety of band members and instruments to help players personalize their experience.
Stage Tour isn’t just about playing music; it’s also like a role-playing game. You get to customize your band – assigning instruments, choosing their appearance, and deciding how they behave during performances.
Your band will change and grow as you play the game. You can customize your group with different characters to create a lineup that fits your style, whether you prefer playing alone or with up to four friends.
Modern games are designed to be played for a long time, with ongoing updates like new music and special in-game events to keep players engaged and coming back.
We don’t have a firm release date yet, but the first closed alpha test will begin sometime between late spring and early summer.
