Love Is Blind Recap: Everybody Hates Chris

The most surprising moment this week came from Jess and Chris, a couple we haven’t seen interacting with each other’s families. After Chris admitted he wasn’t physically attracted to her and mentioned he typically dates people who are more into fitness, Jess decided to end things. While it’s sad to see her heartbroken, I think Chris becoming the ‘villain’ is exactly what this season needed to spice things up. Some of the couples are falling into predictable patterns, repeating the same issues week after week, but Chris is doing something unexpected: he seems to be trying to pursue another person’s fiancé! Before we dive into that drama, let’s recap what happened with each couple.

Brittany and Devonta

Brittany and Devonta are all over the place. One minute, Brittany’s upset, telling producers Devonta should have taken time off after his grandfather’s death and questioning if he’s serious about this relationship. The next, they’re happily connecting in bed and praising their communication. Brittany says she appreciates Devonta’s kind and forgiving nature, comparing him to Jesus. However, as Tyler noted previously, Jesus wasn’t in a relationship, which is a bit ironic.

Despite everything, Devonta is the first person Brittany has brought home in ten years. Her dad is immediately taken with him, even jokingly suggesting he’ll ask Devonta to marry his daughter. It’s a touching moment when he tells Devonta he’ll be like a son to him, particularly knowing Devonta didn’t have a relationship with his own father growing up.

Brittany starts worrying again that Devonta isn’t interested in her, and he explains he didn’t want to change his behavior just to appease her after their conversation in Mexico – he wanted any affection to feel real. He eventually does compliment her, even mentioning her beautiful eyelashes, and it seems sincere. Just as things start looking up, though, a preview for next week’s episode shows trouble: Brittany is getting more invested, Devonta needs space, and she suspects he’s keeping his options open. That doesn’t sound good!

Christine and Vic

Christine’s mom quickly seems to approve of Vic, just like her daughter. After meeting him and praying together, she excitedly shared in a private interview that she found him very attractive, admitting with a blush, “I thought he was hot.”

I was really touched by Vic and Christine’s honest talk about raising biracial kids in a world that still struggles with race. It was cool to hear they’re planning to wait a couple of years before buying a house or starting a family – it feels so real! A lot of their scenes feel like we’re just watching them live their lives, like a FaceTime call when Vic showed Christine around campus. And Christine driving Vic to her hometown was so sweet and vulnerable – showing him all her old hangouts and even the hospital she was born in! Honestly, the way everything is edited makes me feel so hopeful about them. Even when the preview hinted at some tough conversations about insecurities, I wasn’t too worried. I really think they’ve got what it takes to work through anything.

Ashley and Alex

This week’s most awkward family moment happened when Ashley’s lawyer father intensely questioned Alex during dinner. He pressed Alex about his background, family, and even his knowledge of cryptocurrency. Things got even more tense when Alex admitted he hadn’t voted and then stated he would have supported Trump. Ashley’s dad clearly didn’t believe Alex was being truthful and wasn’t shy about voicing his suspicions.

Although the conversation sometimes feels awkward – even Ashley’s brother apologizes for his dad at one point – it actually gives viewers a lot of helpful information. The Lacheys could really learn something from this interview style before the reunion show. It’s also surprising how little Alex talks about soccer! I now have a much clearer understanding of how much he’s traveled and the variety of jobs he’s held.

All of this background sets the stage for a conversation where Alex tells Ashley he’s been offered a soccer coaching job in Florida, a place he believes would be ideal for a couple with their values. He’s eager to accept the position, which makes Ashley feel like she needs to reassure him she doesn’t want to hold him back from pursuing it. This quickly turns into an argument, starting with something trivial—where water bottles should go in the fridge—and escalating to the fact that they haven’t been intimate since their trip to Mexico. It’s revealed that Alex tends to avoid intimacy when Ashley is menstruating or ovulating, due to a fear of unplanned pregnancy.

Okay, so Ashley and Alex had a really honest conversation. She realized she needed to chill out a bit with the cleaning and be more open about things like her period, and she also wants to take more initiative in their sex life. She’s even thinking about looking for a new job, though she likes where she is now. Alex, for his part, agreed to step up and initiate intimacy more often. Honestly, it was sweet to see them work through things. And the next scene? Total payoff! They were playfully making suggestive jokes while golfing of all things – it showed they were really connecting and comfortable with each other again.

Okay, so Ashley and Alex are definitely physically connecting, but as a viewer, I’m still really unsure about the emotional side of things. The idea of her moving to Florida with him feels… premature. Meeting his mom, who seems to live even more of a free-spirited life than Alex does, only raised more red flags for me. Ashley, clearly taking a page from her dad’s book, started digging into Alex’s relationship history, and things got interesting. He finally admitted to flying to Texas for a hookup after a breakup – a real ego boost, apparently. They’ve both been hurt before, and he says he won’t cheat, but the show conveniently throws in a quick shot of his ‘type’ – a brunette with brown eyes – which feels like a pretty obvious warning sign. I’m just not convinced he’s fully moved past those attractions.

Emma and Mike

Emma and Mike are facing some challenges, like different ways of staying organized, and Emma might need to think about her career depending on how secure she feels in the relationship. However, these issues seem minor compared to the bigger question of whether they both want to have children. As expected, that’s what everyone talks about when they meet each other’s families.

It’s amusing how Mike’s mom uses the exact same tone – firm but polite – whether she’s explaining the difference between sauce and gravy or asking Emma about her hesitation with having children. Emma’s past surgeries do seem to give his family some insight into why she’s unsure about giving Mike’s siblings more cousins. However, I also realize Emma isn’t sharing that she simply isn’t sure she wants a family at all, regardless of her health.

The situation becomes clearer when Mike meets Emma’s family. They laugh when Emma jokes about not having a motherly instinct, and they mostly seem concerned about whether she’s prepared for the sacrifices motherhood demands. (They’re surprised to learn about Emma’s insecurities regarding her scars and her difficult childhood.) Mike tries to reassure them by saying Emma is a wonderful pet owner, but this falls flat when he points out that puppies and babies have different needs. Another attempt at reassurance fails when Emma’s sister confesses that, while she loves her children, she wouldn’t choose to be a mother again if she had the chance.

Since returning from Mexico, Mike’s made a firm decision: he wants to have a family. He’s hesitant to marry her unless she’s certain about wanting children, because he doesn’t want her to later regret it. However, asking her to commit to motherhood in just three weeks feels unrealistic. It seems like everyone involved—Mike, his partner, and their families—understands this, and we’re all just waiting to see if things somehow work out.

Amber and Jordan

I’m still not sure if Amber and Jordan have enough time to plan all the details of getting married. Amber had a nice visit with her daughter, Emma, and Jordan had a good meeting with Emma’s father. However, Jordan hasn’t even met Emma yet, let alone spent time getting to know her or imagining what life would be like with her. They also disagree about where to live. Jordan doesn’t want to move into Amber’s long-renovated house, and he doesn’t want Amber to move into his messy apartment. He’d prefer they find a new home together.

Amber’s brother processes the fact that Jordan hadn’t considered having children until he met Amber, but he doesn’t push the topic too hard. The atmosphere remains relaxed when Amber meets Jordan’s family, and his sisters reassure him that Emma will like him. However, next week’s preview suggests trouble – it seems we should be more concerned with whether Jordan will accept Emma, and the idea of becoming her stepfather.

Bri and Connor

Okay, so I’m really starting to wonder if Bri is being a little harsh on Connor. It feels like their relationship is still in that awkward phase where they’re both trying to understand each other. She often talks down to him, calling him a “boy” or basically labeling him as a clueless frat guy, especially when it comes to things like keeping his place tidy. Honestly, there’s a vibe that she enjoys poking fun at him – like the Christmas decorations still being up near Easter, or the keg with a flimsy lock. She even confessed to her mom that she’s questioning if she needs someone as driven as she is. It’s gotten to the point where she’s not comfortable enough to even introduce him to her dad yet, which says a lot!

Bri frequently tells Connor how much she appreciates his emotional support. When she meets his family, she acts very confident about their relationship. Personally, I’m not sure their connection is as special as they believe – there are likely other University of Michigan graduates in Ohio! – but she told Connor’s family that she wouldn’t want to be with anyone else. It makes you wonder, though… what about Chris?

Jessica and Chris

It’s funny – I was initially worried about how Jess’s dogs would react to Chris’s cat! But before we could even really discuss some obvious communication problems, Chris dropped a bombshell. He confessed that he wasn’t feeling a physical connection with Jess, and admitted he’s used to being with partners who are very active, doing things like CrossFit or Pilates daily.

Chris shouldn’t pretend to have feelings if they aren’t genuine, but it’s strange that he’s linking this to how often Jess goes to the gym. She was always honest about her fitness level, and he even brushed off her concerns in Mexico about whether he only dates people who are very into fitness. He admits he’s been fantasizing about being with someone else – a coworker – and talks about his feelings for Jess in the past tense, suggesting they weren’t as strong as he claimed. Then, he acts confused when Jess doesn’t want to continue a relationship where he seems to want her to change her body to fit his preferences and stop him from thinking about another woman. Jess rightfully points out how hurtful his request is, and tearfully explains she deserves someone who enhances her life. Chris, meanwhile, argues that looks won’t matter when they’re older, but acknowledges he’s not that age yet.

So, after things fell apart with my ex, it was this weird mirroring situation – I texted Connor right as Jess was texting Bri. Later, when I met up with Connor, I kind of painted Jess as the one who didn’t want to try and fix things, which, looking back, wasn’t great. He actually suggested I write her a letter, and we even playfully talked about a double date with Bri and Jess! It’s funny, because Connor genuinely seemed to want me to be happy, which is why what happened next hit me so hard.

The mini-reunion

When the friend group got together for bowling, everyone immediately started talking about Chris and Jess’s recent breakup. As soon as Jess arrived, her friends excitedly commented on her appearance, saying she looked amazing and must have been hitting the gym. Chris, feeling self-conscious, jokingly complained, “They all hate me,” and kept repeating his new mantra for the night: “I don’t give a flying fuck.”

The night Chris and Bri broke up, Chris immediately created an Instagram account – reportedly buying followers – and began posting pictures from a strip club. Bri says Chris quickly tried to reconnect with her, sending a friend request, a simple “oh yeah” message, and asking to call. She showed the messages to her fiancé, Connor, and didn’t respond. She also revealed that Chris told Connor he prefers dating women between 21 and 25. These details only angered the other women further. Amber, in particular, surprised everyone with her strong reaction, calling Chris out for his arrogance and even questioning his height. Despite her frustration, her comments were surprisingly restrained compared to what she said to his face, where she bluntly asked if he thought he’d find another doctor to date.

I’ve noticed that Bri, while being the first to comfort Jess when she arrived, seems to really be trying to understand where Chris is coming from with everything that happened between them. It’s weird because even after she tells Chris off for saying something so incredibly hurtful – he described being intimate with Jess as “the worst” – she still insists she doesn’t want to take sides. It’s like she’s trying to be neutral, even when his behavior is clearly awful.

Chris clearly has a crush on Bri and doesn’t see Connor as a threat, considering him too passive. He was openly dismissive when Bri told him she was planning to introduce Connor to her father, and even mocked the idea. It’s strange that Bri felt the need to share details about her sex life with Connor to Chris. Chris directly told Bri she needs a more dominant partner, and that he wants to be that person, though she told him to stop. Despite this, she stayed and listened as he confessed he regretted not proposing. It seems both Bri and Chris share a lack of respect for Connor.

Extra Engaged

I recently asked everyone who they thought would be getting married soon. I apologize for sending out the poll so late – a few colleagues missed it! But here are the results…

🥇Christine and Vic (100%)

🥈Amber and Jordan (67%)

🥉Emma and Mike (33%)

🥉Bri and Connor (33%)

💀 Brittany and Devonta (0%)

💀 Ashley and Alex (0%)

⚰️Jessica and Chris —(n/a)

Christine and Vic, you’re our only hope!

Villain of the week: It’s a three-way tie between Chris, Alex, and Pilates.

A Couple Final Thoughts

I find it hard to take Chris seriously when he tries to act tough. He just reminds me of the character Stuart Little – he seems more suited to cozy activities like eating cheese and wearing sweaters than things like ice baths and judging other people’s appearances.

We recognize Keya and Kevan when they arrive at the reunion, but Priyanka is a surprise – we didn’t know much about her relationships during the show. After Alex mentions she was part of his friend group in Chicago, I’m curious if she knows anything interesting about him or his past relationship there.
