After a Super Bowl ad that left many Star Wars fans wanting more, Lucasfilm has now released a full trailer for the upcoming film. This May’s release will be the first Star Wars movie in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, and fans are hoping it revitalizes the franchise after the divisive end to the Skywalker Saga.
The initial trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, released last September, was short and sweet, but the newest trailer gives fans a much better look at what’s coming next. It’s packed with both returning and new characters, exciting action, stunning visuals, and plenty more to get fans hyped.
Even with the release of the new trailer, Lucasfilm isn’t revealing who the main villain is. However, the trailer did show some familiar faces returning, probably as smaller villains. One of these is an Imperial Warlord who was previously seen in Season 3 of The Mandalorian.
Hemky Madera, known for his role as Mr. Delmar in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man movies, plays an Imperial character in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The trailer shows Madera’s Star Wars character on the same icy planet where Din Djarin destroys an Imperial Walker. It appears Din Djarin and Grogu might defeat this Imperial Warlord early on while working for the New Republic. However, the Warlord could also have a significant connection to the larger story of this time period, possibly through ties to the Shadow Council.
A new scene from the The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer features droids rushing into combat. While previous trailers showed Stormtroopers as a challenge for Din Djarin and Grogu, this suggests they’ll also be facing a droid army. This droid army might be related to details revealed through recently released toys from the movie.
As a big fan of The Mandalorian, I was already excited to see those prequel-era battle droids pop up! And the recent Lego set pretty much confirmed they’d be back. But now it’s looking like this droid army might actually be working for the Hutt Clan, which would be a really interesting twist.
The Star Wars galaxy is known for its diverse alien creatures, and the trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu promises plenty of them will appear in the new series. Fans have spotted a dragonsnake and a Nal Hutta in the footage. It looks like we’ll see a new take on the dragonsnake, possibly held captive by the Hutt Twins – a situation reminiscent of Jabba the Hutt’s treatment of the rancor in Return of the Jedi.
The trailer reveals another alien character interacting with Grogu, potentially a Dug. Fans online have noted the character’s resemblance to a previous one. This new character warns Grogu to be afraid, which brings to mind the tense atmosphere of The Empire Strikes Back.
A welcome addition to The Mandalorian and Grogu is a character from the Ardennian species. This species was previously seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story as Rio Durant.
Okay, this is wild! Martin Scorsese – yes, the Martin Scorsese – is doing voice work in The Mandalorian! Apparently, he’s playing a fry cook, which is just…amazing. He’s done voice roles before, like in Shark Tale, but seeing him join a show like The Mandalorian alongside guys like Jason Sudeikis and John Leguizamo is a fun surprise. It’s cool to see such a legendary director get in on the fun with a voice cameo!
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been loving how Disney+ has brought characters we adore from the animated series to life in live-action, and it’s continuing with The Mandalorian and Grogu! I was so excited to see the trailer confirm the rumors – Rotta the Hutt is going to appear, and he won’t be alone; his companion, Marrok, will be there with him. It’s fantastic to see more connections to The Clone Wars being made!
The actor who voiced a character in The Clone Wars series seems to be playing a bounty hunter who is tracking down Din Djarin and Grogu on Navarro, as seen in the trailer. Similar to Cad Bane in The Book of Boba Fett, Embo is likely to be a powerful enemy in the new film, and will be a welcome treat for fans who have enjoyed The Clone Wars for a long time.
Before the new movie, fans wondered if Din Djarin would finally remove his helmet. While the first two seasons of The Mandalorian showed glimpses of his face, The Book of Boba Fett and the third season of The Mandalorian kept it covered. Considering Pedro Pascal’s popularity, it’s not surprising the latest trailer reveals him taking off his helmet.
Despite taking off his helmet, Din Djarin’s actions create uncertainty about his future as a Mandalorian, considering the strict traditions of his culture. Revealing his face again suggests he may need to undergo the ritual of the Living Waters once more.
