As a researcher with a background in cybersecurity, I have seen my fair share of hacking incidents, but the recent string of YouTube channel hacks targeting popular Filipino artists has left me deeply concerned. The malicious actors behind these attacks have not only tarnished the reputations of these artists but also potentially put their fans at risk.

Several Filipino artists unfortunately experienced YouTube channel hacks, during which the intruders broadcasted false videos. In these videos, XRP co-founder Brad Garlinghouse was depicted making predictions about XRP’s price surge to $4. However, it is essential to note that these videos were manipulated, aiming to deceive unsuspecting viewers into following instructions and ultimately losing their funds.

One of the most significant incidents from the string of hacks affected the popular pop band Ben&Ben, which boasts a following of 3.02 million people on Facebook and comprises nine members. One band member used the group’s official Facebook account to alert fans, “Hello. Our YouTube channel has been compromised. Rest assured, our team is working diligently to resolve the issue. We will keep you informed, Liwanag.”

“A few hours after our initial statement, we wanted to update our dear fans that a substantial portion of our YouTube channel has been restored, excluding the livestream on our homepage which is currently being controlled by unauthorized users. At present, our efforts are focused on terminating this ongoing live broadcast from our home page as soon as possible. We deeply appreciate your understanding and continued backing during these trying times.”

As a researcher studying the recent developments in the Philippine music industry, I came across some unfortunate news. Artists SB19 and Rico Blanco have been among those affected by hacking attacks. SB19 took to Facebook to share this update with their fans, “I’m sorry to report that our official YouTube account was recently breached.” They went on to assure their audience that the situation is being addressed, “Rest assured, we have regained control of the account and are taking steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

There have been no formal announcements from Rico Blanco or his team regarding the hacking incident. A post on the r/Phillipines Reddit forum suggested that Blanco’s YouTube channel, which has 700,000 subscribers, was also affected by this hack. The same suspicious activity was reported in the YouTube accounts of Ben&Ben and SB19, leading some to wonder if there are more victims.
