Alan Ritchson has long been a fan favorite to play the iconic Terminator, and now a new Netflix movie, War Machine, takes that idea a step further. The film features Ritchson battling a robot very much like a Terminator. This comes after Ritchson gained widespread recognition and became a popular actor thanks to his role as the lead in Reacher.
Although the Terminator series has always remained connected to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic T-800, Alan Ritchson clearly has the skills to take on the role. He’s proven he can play a relentless, powerful fighter, both as the hero Jack Reacher and in action-packed scenes from recent films like Fast X and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
What Is War Machine About?
Fans who were hoping to see Alan Ritchson as the Terminator can now catch him battling a similar robotic enemy in the new action movie, War Machine. The film, directed and co-written by Patrick Hughes (known for The Hitman’s Bodyguard), centers around a group of recruits undergoing intense special operations training.
The recruits, including the powerfully built soldier played by Ritchson, were nearing the finish of their grueling test when a surprise attack began. A dangerous, high-tech robot emerged and started eliminating the troops with its deadly weapons and tracking abilities.
War Machine Is Giving Off Major Terminator Vibes
We don’t know where this robot originated – whether it’s from outer space, a hostile country, or the future – but one thing is clear. This villainous robot in War Machine is reminiscent of the Terminator films: a relentless, futuristic weapon that can’t be reasoned with. It’s hard to imagine how even Jackson Ritchson’s highly trained soldier can defeat it.
Luckily, he won’t be facing this challenge by himself. Unlike Sarah Connor in The Terminator, who initially fought the T-800 alone before meeting Kyle Reese, this War Machine hero has a team supporting him. The cast includes Joe Manganiello, along with Stephan James, Dennis Quaid, and Jai Courtney.
Alan Ritchson Has Been A Popular Terminator Fancast
Despite its R-rating and depictions of intense violence, War Machine suggests many of the trainees won’t make it through the program. However, the film’s tough and gritty nature could be a perfect opportunity to showcase Ritchson’s skills for a potential Terminator role.
For a while, this actor has been a strong contender to take over the role made famous by Schwarzenegger, and his new Netflix film will give him a chance to showcase his skills in action and science fiction. Following his work in War Machine, Ritchson now appears to be the frontrunner to play The Terminator.
