Each season of Single’s Inferno generates a lot of talk about one contestant, and this year is no exception. Choi Mina Sue is currently receiving criticism from viewers, prompting another former beauty pageant contestant to come to her defense.
The latest season of the hit dating show premiered on Netflix last week, featuring a new group of singles looking for romance. This season includes some surprising new challenges, leading to an especially dramatic game of ‘truth or drink’ – the most intense one in the show’s history.
Okay, so out of everyone on Single’s Inferno Season 5, Mina Sue really stood out to me. She initially said Lee Sung-hun, Lim Su-been, and Woo Sung-min were her top picks, but then she started showing interest in Song Seung-il, which caused some drama with Kim Min-ji. It was a total rollercoaster, honestly!
Her eye roll during the campfire scene sparked criticism from some viewers. However, others are coming to her defense, along with a former pageant competitor who has seen the negative reaction to her friend’s actions.
Choi Mina Sue friend defends her against Single’s Inferno backlash

I’ve been seeing so much negativity on Mina Sue’s Instagram lately – people are just leaving really angry comments! It’s gotten so bad that Jasmin Selberg, who’s a model and actually won Miss International 2022, has stepped in to defend her. It’s great to see someone with her platform supporting Mina.
Mina Sue is a beauty pageant veteran, and in 2022, she won the title of Miss Earth. She’s been friends with Selberg for many years.
In her recent post, Selberg explained that she’s known Mina Sue for several years. She understands how Mina’s involvement with Single’s Inferno might create a negative impression, but wants people to remember it’s ultimately a show designed for entertainment.
Like any TV show, everyone involved has a part to play – from the most beloved character to the villain. You’re welcome to share your thoughts on what her character is doing, but personal attacks go too far.

Mina is a wonderful friend – she’s fun, loving, and always cares about others. While she was recently given the title of Miss Earth by the people running the competition, that public role doesn’t fully show who she really is as a person.
It’s unfair to criticize people based on how they act on TV. Remember, it’s not genuine, and it’s rarely as serious as it seems. The real problem is the pain caused by online bullying.
Selberg aimed to portray the genuine Mina Sue, but her statement sparked a lot of responses, including one questioning whether the show was unscripted.
One viewer commented that even if the behavior was part of the show, portraying a mean or rude character wasn’t enjoyable to watch. They initially liked the contestant, finding her cute, but were disappointed with her actions in Episode 4.
Honestly, a lot of people are coming to Mina Sue’s defense, and they actually agree with what Selberg said. One person even wrote, “Looks like the show totally played us!” It’s kinda frustrating, but they might have a point.
After seeing so much positive feedback, Selberg wrote a special message for her friend, Mina. She told her, “Your friends appreciate you just the way you are.”
Look, I get it – seeing nasty comments online really stings. But honestly, I try to remind myself that these people are usually strangers. If we lived in a world without the internet, their opinions wouldn’t even reach me, let alone bother me. It helps to keep things in perspective, you know?
Taking time to unplug and enjoy the world around you is essential. Put down your devices and truly notice what’s happening – that’s what makes life meaningful.
Season 5 viewers spot hidden detail
Although the storyline involving Mina, Seung-il, and Min-ji took center stage in the latest episode of Single’s Inferno Season 5, viewers have spotted a sweet moment you might have missed: Lee Sung-hun and Ham Ye-jin holding hands.

Just before the scene ends, after Mina Sue confesses her feelings to Seung-il while sitting with him and Min-ji, the camera shows Ye-jin placing a note from the question box and then taking Sung-hun’s hand.
Okay, so some of the challenges involved holding hands, which honestly could just be a part of the competition itself. But if it is more than that, it definitely suggests that Sung-hun and Ye-jin are each other’s favorites – or at least, one of them is really into the other!
Interestingly, a pattern emerged in the videos: when Mina Sue leaned on Ye-jin for support, Ye-jin would then lean on Sung-hun. Social media users noticed this, and one commented that everyone was so distracted by the surrounding confusion that they missed the subtle moment of the three of them holding hands.
One Redditor expressed surprise, writing, “I didn’t see that coming,” and another exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, wait! That’s a really good find!”
The second part of Single’s Inferno Season 5 will be available on Netflix starting January 27th. Before then, you can check to see which couples from the show are still together, learn about the hosts, and find out what other TV shows are coming up in our 2026 release calendar.
