A large fish sculpture unexpectedly fell from the wall inside a Sexy Fish restaurant in Manchester, England, while customers were dining. Fortunately, only one person suffered a minor injury.
Julie Evans was celebrating her husband Peter’s birthday at a restaurant when a large swordfish sculpture above their table suddenly came loose, she told Manchester Evening News, shortly after they’d ordered drinks.
I was just enjoying myself when suddenly there was this really loud rumble, and then the fake fish decoration came crashing down! It actually hit Peter in the back and sent drinks flying everywhere, completely soaking Julie. It was such a mess!
Julie said the staff was deeply upset, explaining, “It could have been fatal.” She added that everyone was shocked and trembling from the experience.
Sexy Fish responds
After the incident, Sexy Fish stated that a decorative item had fallen from the ceiling while customers were dining. A spokesperson confirmed a thorough safety inspection was conducted by outside experts, and that the restaurant prioritizes the safety of its customers and staff.
Regarding the sculpture, believed to be by Damien Hirst, the restaurant hasn’t said what will happen to it. TikTok videos taken by people walking by show the restaurant’s interior with lots of debris on the floor, and the sculpture sitting on a table.
Sexy Fish is a restaurant group with locations in London, Miami, Dubai, and Manchester. They’re known for serving a variety of fish dishes, and their Manchester location is now open again.
