In Season 9, Episode 9 of 9-1-1, viewers learned what’s next for Henrietta “Hen” Wilson and if she’ll be leaving the show. The season began with a daring space mission, sending Hen and Athena Grant to the International Space Station. Although they returned safely, Hen was affected by the trip, contracting a disease that impacted her health.
The first indication that Hen was sick appeared during a midseason finale when she fainted and remained unconscious for several hours without anyone realizing. Her condition worsened when the new 118 captain, Chimney, sent her on a search and rescue operation, and she collapsed afterward. This deeply upset Chimney, as he didn’t know Hen was dealing with a serious illness, and she had put the team in danger by keeping it a secret. Consequently, Chimney dismissed her from duty, but they reconciled as friends once everyone discovered her diagnosis, which pointed to a difficult future for her character.
Is Hen Leaving 9-1-1? Season 9’s New Episode Seals Her Fate

In Season 9, Episode 8 of 9-1-1, Hen was diagnosed with dermatomyositis, an autoimmune disease that causes muscle fatigue. This condition developed after she was exposed to ultraviolet radiation during a mission featured in the season’s four-part premiere. Unfortunately, there’s currently no cure for dermatomyositis. While Hen remains a key character on the show, she’ll be taking a leave of absence from Firehouse 118 to focus on her recovery.
Even though Hen wasn’t actively working on calls in 9-1-1 Season 9, Episode 9, the episode still focused on her recovery. Her colleagues at the 118 took shifts helping her and keeping her spirits up.
The episode ended with Hen reading an old letter she’d written to herself, which reminded her to stay positive and not dwell on her challenges.
The most recent episode of Season 9 showed Hen adjusting to her recovery, now using a walker instead of a wheelchair. The episode culminated in her attending Harry Grant’s graduation ceremony from the Firefighting Academy.
It’s unclear when or if Hen will be fully back at work due to a long-term health condition. We might continue to see her recovery storyline on 9-1-1, but for now, there’s no suggestion she’s leaving the show.
9-1-1 Season 9, Episode 9’s Major Reveal Could Foreshadow Hen’s Fate

Although Hen shows some improvement by the end of 9-1-1 Season 9, Episode 9, her recovery will likely take time, and her job at Firehouse 118 isn’t secure.
The latest episode added another layer of interest to the show: Harry Grant, Athena’s son, has officially joined the team at Firehouse 118. While Hen is still very much a part of the 118, many viewers believe Harry’s arrival hints at what might happen to her character, suggesting the show may be preparing for her eventual departure and Harry taking her place.
It’s unclear if 9-1-1 will lose another main cast member, particularly after Captain Bobby Nash left in Season 8. Although Hen is currently off-duty, the preview for the next episode hints at how her storyline will unfold throughout the rest of Season 9.
ABC has revealed details about the upcoming episode of 9-1-1, Season 9, Episode 10, titled “Handle with Care.” The episode will feature Eddie and Hen facing legal scrutiny as they are called to court to address a potential malpractice claim from a past case.
Harry’s initial day as a probationary firefighter is harder than Chimney anticipated. At the same time, Eddie and Hen face a difficult court case involving a former patient who resurfaces painful memories.
Unlike the other main characters on 9-1-1, who are usually actively working or out on calls, Hen’s recovery will involve different characters offering support and each having their own individual storylines.
