In the latest episode of Tell Me Lies, ‘Fix Me Up, Girl,’ Caitie Parker’s return brings the unresolved case of Chris’s sexual assault back into focus. Because of the timing, and its connection to Lucy, a compelling theory about Stephen is gaining traction.
Stephen (Jackson White) has always been a complicated character, but in the third season of the Hulu series, his manipulative behavior has become much more intense. He started the season in a relationship with Lucy (Grace Van Patten), but it quickly fell apart.
Stephen gave Lucy a harsh choice: reveal to Bree that she had been with Evan, or their relationship was over. Lucy chose to tell Bree, but Stephen still wouldn’t back down. He demanded she record a video confessing she falsely accused Chris of sexual assault, threatening to expose her to Bree if she didn’t.
Lucy is clearly lying because she’s hiding what she knows about Chris. However, Stephen doesn’t care about the truth – he only cares about having power and control. The unexpected return of Caitie Parker (played by Taia Sophia) indicates he’ll use anyone, even hurt them, to ruin Lucy’s life. Please be aware that the following content may be upsetting to some viewers.
Who is Caitie Parker?

Caitie Parker, a student at Baird College, was sexually assaulted by Chris, the brother of Lucy’s close friend Lydia (Natalee Linez). After learning about what happened to Lucy, Caitie decides to pursue reopening her own case, as shown in Season 3, Episode 4 of Tell Me Lies.
During the second season of the show, Chris assaults Pippa (played by Sonia Mena) after drugging her. Diana (Alicia Crowder) discovers Pippa at a party, barely able to stay awake and with her clothes disarranged. Chris then emerges from the bathroom and is surprised to find Diana present.
Diana and Lucy helped Pippa when she needed it, but the next day, Pippa didn’t want to discuss what had happened or involve the authorities. While Diana and Lucy respected her wishes, another student, Caitie Parker, came forward with a similar accusation against Chris, claiming he had sexually assaulted her as well.
Everyone, including Lydia, pretty much thought Caitie was making things up, so the investigation just stopped. But even though the case was closed, Pippa still wouldn’t open up about what happened. Since I know what really went down, it’s been causing a lot of tension between me and Lydia. It’s frustrating, honestly.

A tense argument erupts at a bar when the conversation turns to Caitie and someone claims she had a rough night after drinking too much. Lucy, finally fed up with the speculation, declares that Chris is the one responsible.
She tried to support her claims by recounting Pippa’s experience, but presented it as her own. While this was a significant error with multiple flaws, she meant well.
In Season 3 of Tell Me Lies, Lucy reveals something to Stephen hoping he’ll keep it secret and prevent him from telling Bree about Evan. While Stephen hasn’t shared the information yet, Caitie has learned about Lucy’s confession and now thinks she’s been manipulated as well.
In episode 4, Lucy is summoned to the Dean’s office where she meets with Caitie and Marianne (Gabriella Pession). Caitie reveals that learning about Lucy’s experience has inspired her to reopen the investigation into Chris.
Lucy doesn’t want to help and walks away, which is understandable, but it’s hard not to sympathize with Caitie. Her situation highlights how often cases like this go unresolved, and unfairly puts the focus on what the victim did instead of the perpetrator.
Honestly, it’s been so frustrating watching her get attacked for months, with everyone calling her a liar. But even now, she’s determined to keep going with the case if it means protecting other people from Chris. And to top it all off, it’s starting to look like Stephen might have actually started all this trouble in the first place!
Tell Me Lies Season 3 Episode 4 sparks Stephen theory

Most viewers believe Stephen revealed Lucy’s lie to Caitie simply to upset his ex-girlfriend. Evidence supporting this comes from earlier in the episode, where Stephen is shown looking at Caitie’s Facebook profile.
Okay, so after my fight with Diana about the baby, she totally shut me down and made it clear I couldn’t control her anymore. Honestly, it really bothered me – I hate feeling powerless. It’s just… I needed to find a way to feel important again, you know? It’s a pattern with me, I guess.
To make matters worse, Lucy found out a Facebook page had been created accusing Chris Montgomery of being a rapist. The page specifically claimed he sexually assaulted both Caitie Parker and Lucy Albright.
If Stephen is deliberately trying to harm Lucy, he likely created this Facebook group to trap her and make it impossible for her to reveal the truth.

On Reddit, a fan wondered who Stephen was staring at. Another user explained it was Catie, the woman who previously accused Lydia’s brother of a serious crime, which led to both her and Lucy being questioned by the Dean. The commenter believes Stephen was interfering and intentionally causing trouble for Lucy.
Someone on TikTok proposed a theory that Stephen asked Caitie to target Diana after Diana revealed she was having an abortion.
Everyone agreed that Lucy, feeling overwhelmed, had to ask Diana for assistance, explaining she was only trying to help Pippa. Diana, who is very protective of Pippa, wouldn’t allow Lucy to involve her in the situation. Apparently, that’s exactly what Stephen had been aiming for all along.
We’ll find out what happens next when the fifth episode of Tell Me Lies Season 3 is released on January 27th. In the meantime, you can explore other new shows and series coming to streaming services, or check out our calendar of TV show releases for 2026.
