Bungie announced that its upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, will be available on March 5th. A new trailer showcased gameplay footage as preorders begin. The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for $40.
The new trailer revisits Tau Ceti IV, a colony you’ll sneak into as a ‘runner’ to defeat enemy forces and steal important equipment. You’ll choose from different ‘Runner Shells’ which each offer unique skills and advantages, letting you specialize within a team or customize your experience if you prefer playing alone. The game still features a distinctive art style and the fast-paced, satisfying gunplay Bungie is known for.
So, Marathon was supposed to come out on September 23, 2025, but it’s been delayed. After letting people try it out, a lot of us weren’t thrilled with how some of the game mechanics felt. Bungie said they’re taking the time to really polish things, especially the survival aspects, build out the story and world more, and make it a better experience whether you’re playing alone or with a friend.
Okay, so good news for anyone hyped about Marathon! Sony, the publisher, has promised it’ll be out before March 2026. Even better, Bungie said we’ll get a public beta in February to try it out before the full release. It hasn’t been a smooth development though – there was some drama with an artist who claimed Bungie used their work without permission, but that’s been settled now. Hopefully, that’s all behind them and they can focus on delivering a great game!
Arc Raiders quickly became popular after its release, attracting and keeping hundreds of thousands of players each month in the extraction shooter genre.
