Resident Evil Village, a highly-rated survival-horror game, is coming to Xbox Game Pass on January 20th. It’s already available on Xbox Ally and Windows PC through Xbox Play Anywhere since January 15th, but players are reporting issues with the game right now, so you might want to hold off on downloading it until those are fixed.
A recent report from Windows Central highlights that Resident Evil: Village (RE: VIII) has surprisingly been added to the Xbox Play Anywhere program, even though it wasn’t originally included when the service launched in September 2016. Play Anywhere now boasts over 1,000 games, allowing players to purchase a title once and play it on Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and devices like the Xbox Ally. However, RE: VIII seems to be having issues; the installation files are currently missing on both the Ally and PC.
Okay, so I was trying to get RE: VIII running on my PC, and it’s been a weird experience. That ‘Install’ button? It doesn’t actually install the game – it just downloads this tiny 10MB file. The good news is my saves are syncing from my Xbox, but the bad news is, the game won’t launch at all. I just get a crash message every time I try. It looks like something’s messed up with Xbox Play Anywhere for this release, which is super frustrating.
You can find RE: VIII on almost any gaming platform! It’s available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, as well as Apple devices like iPads, Macs, and iPhones. It’s also included with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. While this widespread availability is generally positive, a recent issue highlights that Microsoft still needs to refine Xbox Play Anywhere so it works seamlessly with new game releases.
Resident Evil Village, which came out in May 2021, picks up the story of Ethan Winters after the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. He’s on a desperate search for his daughter, who has been taken to a strange village overrun with terrifying mutants. Our review at TopMob gave the game a 9/10 and called it “superb,” praising it as a smart return to the exciting action that defines Resident Evil. The next installment, Resident Evil Requiem, is scheduled to release on February 26th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
