Daredevil Showrunner’s Bloody New Epic Is Quietly Dominating Streaming

The latest installment in this series is proving to be the most popular yet, easily outperforming other streaming releases. Despite some negative reviews, the action-packed film has quickly become a major success since its release.

According to FlixPatrol, Spartacus: House of Ashur is currently a top ten hit on several streaming services. In the United States, it’s the second most popular series on Starz, where it streams. It’s even more popular elsewhere, topping the charts on MGM+ in the UK, ranking second on Stan in Australia, and landing at number three on Canal+ in France.

Spartacus: House of Ashur is a popular series, ranking among the top five most-watched shows on Amazon Channels in the US and the UK. It’s also been a top five hit on Amazon Prime Video in eight countries worldwide.

Launching in December 2025, Spartacus: House of Ashur presents a fresh take on the world of the original Spartacus saga. Steven S. DeKnight, the showrunner of Daredevil and creator of the original series, is also at the helm of this new installment. Nick E. Tarabay stars as Ashur, who, unlike in the original story, survives Mount Vesuvius and goes on to live a remarkably successful, though still incredibly violent, life.

In addition to Tarabay, Spartacus: House of Ashur features Graham McTavish as Korris, Tenika Davis as Neferet (also known as Achillia), Claudia Black as Cossutia, Ivana Baquero as Messia, Jordi Webber as Tarchon, India Shaw-Smith as Viridia, Jamaica Vaughan as Hilara, and Leigh Gill as Satyrus. The show has also included popular appearances by guest stars Lucy Lawless as Lucretia and Stephen Madsen as Creticus.

The new series Spartacus: House of Ashur has been well-received by critics, earning a 92% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on a dozen reviews. However, viewers haven’t been as enthusiastic, giving it a score of only 55% based on over 250 audience reviews.

What Is Spartacus: House of Ashur About?

According to Starz, the new series explores a ‘what if’ scenario: what if Ashur had survived the eruption of Mount Vesuvius at the end of ‘Spartacus: Vengeance’? It also asks what would have happened if he’d been given Batiatus’ gladiator school as a reward for helping the Romans defeat Spartacus and crush the slave revolt.

Ashur challenges expectations by introducing Achillia, a skilled and determined female gladiator who aims to succeed in a traditionally male arena. Their performances create a shocking and controversial spectacle, upsetting the established order with every battle.

You can now watch Spartacus: House of Ashur on Starz and through various digital platforms. New episodes are released every Friday on Starz, with the season finale airing on February 6th.
