Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Recruitment Guide

As a huge Fire Emblem fan, I was so excited to see Path of Radiance – one of the most sought-after and pricey games, especially on GameCube – finally hit Nintendo’s digital library! It’s the game that introduced Ike, who later became a Smash Bros. fighter alongside other Fire Emblem heroes like Marth and Roy. Like all Fire Emblem games, Path of Radiance has a ton of awesome characters you can recruit to fight with you, but figuring out how to recruit them can be tricky. I’ve been looking for a guide to help me build the strongest mercenary group possible, and I’m glad to share what I’ve learned!

Ike

Starting Class: Ranger
Chapter: Prolouge
Requirements:
You will have access to Ike by default

Titania

Starting Class: Paladin
Chapter: 1
Requirements: You will have access to Titania as the level starts

Oscar

You’ll begin as a Lance Knight in Chapter 1. At the start of the level, you’ll also have access to Oscar.

Boyd

Starting Class: Fighter
Chapter: 1
Requirements: You will have access to Boyd as the level starts

Rhys

Starting Class: Priest
Chapter: 2
Requirements: You will have access to Rhys as the level starts

Shinon

You’ll unlock the Sniper class with Shinon in Chapter 3, but he’ll temporarily leave your party due to story events. To get him back, you’ll need to find him and speak with Rolf in Chapter 18, then defeat him in battle with Ike. If you do, Shinon will rejoin your team starting in Chapter 19.

Gatrie

Okay, so I’m starting a new game as a Knight! I’m currently in Chapter 3 out of 13. Something cool—and a little annoying—is that Gatrie joins me right away, but the story has him leave the party. Don’t worry, though! I’ll be able to get him back in Chapter 13. Apparently, I just need to talk to him with Astrid, who I can recruit then, and he’ll rejoin the Greil Mercenaries. Good to know for planning ahead!

Marcia

To unlock the Pegasus Knight class, you’ll need to recruit her. First, in Chapter 3, find her on the boat and have Ike speak with her – this will cause her to run away. It’s best to use Titania to quickly carry Ike to her location to prevent her from getting hurt. She’ll reappear in Chapter 9; speak to her again then, and she’ll join your team.

Soren

Starting Class: Mage
Chapter: 4
Requirements: You will have access to Soren as the level starts

Mia

Starting Class: Myrmidon.
Chapter: 7.
To recruit Mia: she’ll appear on the east side of the map after your first turn. Simply talk to her to add her to your team.

Ilyana

To unlock this class, reach Chapter 8. While she initially appears as an opponent, speaking to her alongside Ike will allow her to join your team.

Mist

Starting Class: Cleric
Chapter: 9
Requirements: You will have access to Mist as the level starts.

Rolf

Starting Class: Archer
Chapter: 9
Requirements: You will have access to Rolf as the level starts.2

Lethe

Okay, so I’m starting this run as the Cat Beast Tribe. I’m jumping into Chapter 10, and here’s the deal: if I managed to keep Lethe alive during Chapter 9, she’ll automatically join my team at the beginning of this chapter. Fingers crossed I didn’t mess that up!

Mordecai

New Class Available: Beast Tribe (Tiger).
Chapter: 10
To unlock this class, ensure Mordecai survives Chapter 9 – if he does, he’ll automatically join your team at the beginning of Chapter 10.

Volke

To unlock the Thief class, you need to accept his offer to join your team at the start of Chapter 10.

Kieran

You’ll unlock the Axe Knight, Kieran, at the start of Chapter 11. To recruit him, simply make sure he survives Chapter 10 and open his cell, which is located in the southeastern part of the Chapter 10 map.

Brom

You’ll unlock the Knight class, Brom, at the start of Chapter 11. To recruit him, simply make sure he’s still alive and that you’ve opened his cell during Chapter 10. You can find his cell in the southeastern part of the Chapter 10 map.

Nephenee

You can recruit Nephenee as a Soldier starting in Chapter 11. To do so, make sure she survives Chapter 10 and that you open her cell, which is located in the northern part of the Chapter 10 map.

Zihark

To unlock the Myrmidon class, you’ll need to recruit Zihark in Chapter 11. He starts as an enemy in the northeastern part of the map. Talk to him using either Lethe or Mordecai, and he’ll join your team.

Sothe

To begin, you must be in Class 12 and the Thief chapter. Before starting the stage, access the Info Menu and read the character’s conversation. This is required to gain their help.

Jill

To unlock the Wyvern Rider class, you need to recruit Jill in Chapter 12. She’ll appear on the second turn, entering the map from the southeast corner. Simply talk to her with Ike to add her to your team.

Astrid

Unlock the Bow Knight class in Chapter 13. To recruit this character, find her on the central boat and speak with her while Ike is in your party.

Makalov

To begin, you’ll find the Sword Knight in the northwest corner of Chapter 14’s map. He initially appears as an enemy, but you can recruit him by sending Marcia to speak with him – he’s her brother!

Tormod

You’ll unlock the Mage class and gain Tormod as a companion after finishing Chapter 15.

Muarim

You’ll unlock the Tiger Beast Tribe as a playable class after finishing Chapter 15. Once completed, Muarim will join your team.

Stefan

To recruit the Swordmaster class, you’ll need to reach Chapter 15 and fulfill a specific requirement. Either Mordecai or Lethe must be sent to a particular location in the northeastern corner of the map. This spot is one space south and three spaces west of the very northeast point, and it’s also where you can find the Vague Katti weapon.

Devdan

To begin the Halberdier class, you need to reach Chapter 16. The mission starts with Devdan, who appears as an enemy in the northwest part of the map. Talk to him with either Tormod, Mist, Rolf, Sothe, or Soren in your party to recruit him to your side.

Tanith

Begin the Falcon Knight class at Chapter 18. Tanith will be available to you from the start of the level.

Calill

To unlock the Sage class, you need to recruit her as a mercenary before starting Chapter 20. The process is the same as recruiting Sothe – use the Info Menu to hire her.

Tauroneo

To begin this class, advance to Chapter 21. You can find Tauroneo in the southwest area, near the boss arena. Speak to him with Ike to recruit him to your team.

Haar

To unlock the Wyvern Lord class, advance to Chapter 23. During the chapter, find Haar on the eastern side of the map and speak to him with Jill in your party. This will add the Wyvern Lord to your available classes.

Ranulf

Starting class is Beast Tribe (Cat). This is Chapter 23, and Ranulf will be available to you from the beginning.

Bastian

You’ll begin the game as the Sage class. Chapter 24 is where the story starts. Bastian and Lucia will automatically become members of your party from turn 2 onwards.

Lucia

Okay, so I’m playing as the Swordmaster, and I just hit Chapter 24. Here’s the cool thing – Lucia actually joins my team! She shows up starting on turn 2 of this chapter, and she comes with Bastian, which is awesome. I’m really excited to have her!

Geoffrey

You begin with the Paladin class. Chapter 25 unlocks this class, but only if Geoffrey survives Chapter 24.

Largo

To unlock the Berserker class, you must first recruit Calill and ensure she survives. Before starting Chapter 25, be sure to watch the special conversation available in the Info Menu.
