2025 was a quieter year for FromSoftware, the studio behind Elden Ring and Dark Souls. They released one game, Elden Ring Nightreign, along with the The Forsaken Hollows expansion in December. While the game received positive reviews, it was seen as a smaller, more conservative project. Many believe it served as a temporary release for the studio, given its limited scope and lower price of $40.
2026 looks like a big year for FromSoftware. They’re releasing a new multiplayer game, The Duskbloods, sometime this year, which is great news. But it seems they have even more projects in the works. FromSoftware usually has multiple games being developed at once – they released the huge Elden Ring only three years after Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. While they often surprise us, we can still make some reasonable predictions about what they’ll be working on in 2026.
The Duskbloods Will Release at Some Point in 2026
While FromSoftware and Nintendo haven’t announced an exact release date, The Duskbloods is still planned to launch in 2026. Like Elden Ring Nightreign, it’s a game focused on multiplayer experiences, offering players a brand new world to explore. Although The Duskbloods shares some similarities with Bloodborne, the two games aren’t connected. Also, Duskbloods‘ multiplayer is quite different from Nightreign‘s – it’s built around competitive matches, unlike Nightreign‘s cooperative, roguelike gameplay.
Just to clarify, The Duskbloods will only be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. This is the first time FromSoftware has agreed to make a game exclusively for a platform other than PlayStation.
Considering all the clues and the fact that The Duskbloods has been in development for a long time – even before Sekiro came out – it looks like this game will be quite different from what the studio usually makes. The lengthy development suggests the core ideas for Duskbloods weren’t influenced by their more recent games like Sekiro, Elden Ring, Armored Core 6, or even Elden Ring Nightreign. Hopefully, this will make The Duskbloods feel innovative and stay true to the studio’s overall vision.
Elden Ring Nightreign Will Probably Get More DLC This Year
Elden Ring Nightreign has already received one paid expansion, The Forsaken Hollows, but it likely won’t be the last. Considering the base game costs only $40 and the first DLC was just $15, it seems unlikely the developers would stop there. It’s more logical from a business standpoint to release additional, smaller expansions over time, especially given the game’s multiplayer focus and ongoing service aspects, to generate continued revenue.
It’s likely the cooperative PvE roguelike will continue to receive some form of support, even if it’s not through paid updates. FromSoftware has previously added free content and improvements to Elden Ring Nightreign, showing they’re willing to do so. Plus, modern multiplayer games generally need ongoing content to stay engaging, and Nightreign will likely follow that trend. FromSoftware will probably use what they learned from The Forsaken Hollows to improve future updates and expansions.
Unannounced FromSoftware Project ‘FMC’ Reportedly in the Works
FromSoftware is currently working on a new, mysterious project slated for 2026. A report from MP1ST in July 2025 revealed the game is in active development under the internal codename “FMC.” It’s important to note that FromSoftware frequently uses initials for codenames, which don’t necessarily reflect the final game title. For example, Dark Souls 3 was known as “FDP” during its creation.
It’s interesting to note that FromSoftware’s internal project codes for Armored Core and Dark Souls both start with the letter ‘F’. Because of this, MP1ST believes the project codenamed ‘FMC’ could be a remaster of Dark Souls 3, or even a brand new Dark Souls game. While it’s also possible ‘FMC’ is another Armored Core title, that seems less likely considering Armored Core 6 came out in 2023. However, FromSoftware could always surprise us.
FromSoftware usually has several games in development simultaneously, so it’s probable they’re working on more than just The Duskbloods right now. Studio director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed this in late 2024, saying FromSoftware was developing “multiple projects… across a variety of genres.” This was before Duskbloods was announced and Nightreign was released, but his words suggest even more games are in the works. It’s currently unknown if FMC is one of them, but it seems likely that FromSoftware is holding back some surprises. We may find out more about their future plans later this year.
