Be warned: the following contains major spoilers for Season 2 of The Pitt. You can watch this medical drama with a subscription to HBO Max.
The second season of The Pitt kicked off quickly in 2026, introducing new patients and plenty of medical terms. But alongside the professional drama, we also got a glimpse into the characters’ personal lives. In a surprising moment, it strongly suggested that Santos, played by Isa Briones, and Garcia, played by Alexandra Metz, were a couple. Briones has now confirmed the relationship, and it was a total shock!
What Was Said On The Pitt That Got Me Wondering About Garcia And Santos
I was rewatching Season 1, and I totally missed something the first time around! Garcia casually mentions something to Whitaker within the first ten minutes that proves she’s definitely been to his and Santos’ place. Honestly, it strongly suggests she’s been there more than once, but it’s never explicitly stated – it’s all just hinted at. Here’s what they said…
- Garcia: What’s up, White Chocolate? Did you know our farm boy here is a vintage-funk freak? Unfortunately, he also likes to use other people’s toothbrushes.
- Whitaker: It was one time. They were the same color.
It’s clear Garcia knows Whitaker and Santos’ living situation – and Whitaker personally – well enough to tease him. The way Garcia responded sounds frustrated, suggesting they’ve discussed this before. Also, mentioning toothbrushes implies Garcia has been to the apartment a lot. Watching them interact, I started to wonder if Garcia and Santos had a closer relationship than just being coworkers.
When watching the scene again, a previous comment by Whitaker really highlighted this idea. Just after Garcia enters the patient’s room and speaks with Robby, Noah Wyle’s character observes that she struggles to express her emotions. Immediately after that, Whitaker made a subtle but telling remark. Here’s how the conversation unfolded:
- Robby: Dr. Garcia has a hard time expressing her feelings.
- Whitaker: Not all of them.
Watching this show felt… exhausting, honestly. It had this undercurrent of tension, like being stuck listening to someone else’s constant drama. And it all makes sense now! Isa Briones, who plays Santos, just revealed that her character is actually in a relationship with the surgical resident, which explains the constant, simmering energy. It’s like we were all privy to the fallout of a messy romance without even knowing it!

HBO Max subscriptions begin at $10.99 monthly. New episodes of The Pitt are released every Thursday at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, so a subscription is required to watch. See the deal here.
Isa Briones Confirmed Santos And Garcia’s Relationship
I had a feeling something was happening between Santos and Garcia, but I didn’t want to assume it was true until I knew for sure. Luckily, Isa Briones confirmed it in an interview with TV Line, and explained just how complicated the situation is. She went on to say:
Some viewers are hoping for a fully developed romantic relationship, but that’s not what we’re going for. It’s more realistic – like many work relationships, it’s a bit awkward and undefined. They’re figuring out what’s going on, and there’s a question of whether it’s just fun or something more. There’s an imbalance of feelings, and that uncertainty is actually what makes the story more compelling.
I’m really surprised we found out about this so quickly in the season! The hints definitely suggested a connection between them, but I didn’t expect such a definite confirmation this early on.
I’m totally hooked on the second season of The Pitt! I’m really excited to see how Santos and Garcia’s relationship develops. The creator, Briones, says it’s going to get complicated and cause some drama, and honestly, I can’t wait!
It seems like Santos is feeling insecure about her relationship with Garcia this season, and that’s affecting her performance. She’s distracted by Langdon’s return and also worried because someone she’s interested in seems to be pulling away, leaving her confused about what’s going on.
Langdon coming back will definitely create problems for Santos, since she’s the one who initially caught him. But I think her existing, deeper connection with Garcia might be a bigger issue for her work. Santos and Langdon only knew each other for a single day before Langdon left, whereas her relationship with the surgeon seems longer and more complicated.
The developing relationship between Garcia and Santos on The Pitt feels natural and makes sense, according to Briones. There was already a hint of attraction between them in Season 1, and fans are hoping to see more—workplace romances are a common theme in medical shows. Expect to see their connection continue to develop throughout Season 2, even if it’s a bit complicated.
