Leaks for Version 4.0 of Honkai: Star Rail have confirmed a character fans have been waiting for over a year. The game, currently on Version 3.8, is getting a two-week delay for its next update while the developers at HoYoverse finish work on a new area to explore. Despite the delay, beta testing for Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 is still moving forward.

Beta tests frequently reveal details about upcoming updates, though these details can still change. Recently, leaks for Version 4.0 started appearing, including an image of a potential in-game billboard. Reddit user CSTheng shared a picture showing a character with pink hair and bunny ears holding a sakura flower on a billboard in the new area, Planarcadia.

This character strongly resembles Yae Sakura from Honkai Impact 3rd, and is likely the Yae Sakura-inspired character many players have been expecting in Honkai: Star Rail. Essentially, an ‘expy’ is a character who appears in multiple games within the same series, with similar traits. For instance, Yae Miko in Genshin Impact is an expy of Yae Sakura. Star Rail includes several characters inspired by those from Honkai Impact 3rd, and the developers have confirmed some of these connections.

Many characters in Honkai: Star Rail are inspired by those in Honkai Impact 3rd. For instance, Himeko in Star Rail shares many traits with Murata Himeko from Impact 3rd, and the same is true for Bronya and Seele. There’s even speculation about Acheron’s background, as she seems to be based on Raiden Mei. Interestingly, Welt—a character who appears in both games—mistook Acheron for the Raiden Mei he knew previously.

Recent leaks have confirmed long-standing rumors that a character similar to Yae Sakura will be added to the game. While HoYoverse hasn’t officially announced or revealed the design of this character, the leaked billboard proves she’s coming, likely in one of the Version 4.X updates. This new character, along with rumored new forms for Yae Sakura and Himeko, are among the most highly anticipated additions to Honkai: Star Rail this year.

A Star Rail player named User Not Nine on HoYoLAB has been regularly sharing updates about their anticipation for a character similar to Yae Sakura. They’ve been tracking how long they’ve waited – currently at two years and 251 days – and have saved up 2470 in-game pulls specifically for this character’s release.

A recent billboard leak suggests the character Yae Sakura might be coming to the game later this year, exciting fans who have been waiting for her release. While we’ll still have to wait for an official announcement from HoYoverse – and version 4.0 of Honkai: Star Rail is still some time away with two characters already planned – Yae Sakura feels more attainable than ever.
