A horse in Japan recently caused a bit of a stir when it wandered off from its stable and went for a walk around the city. It felt like a scene from the popular anime Umamusume: Pretty Derby! Luckily, the horse eventually decided to head back home on its own.
The anime Umamusume frequently shows its horse characters relaxing and exploring life outside of school and training. Recently, a scene reminiscent of these moments actually happened in a Japanese city when a group of horses briefly escaped and wandered around town, just like in the show.
Early on the morning of January 5th in Kawasaki City, a horse escaped from its stable at Meiji University’s equestrian club. Police started receiving calls around 7:30 a.m. about a horse running loose in the streets of Tama Ward, according to reports from Livedoor.
IRL Umamusume moment sees horse wander city
A video quickly spread online showing a police car following a horse as it calmly walked down the street. It didn’t seem like the horse was trying to escape, but rather enjoying a leisurely stroll.
About half an hour after it was first noticed missing, the horse walked back to campus on its own. Police confirmed the animal was safe and no one was hurt.

Investigators are talking to people connected with the horse to find out how it got out of its stable.
Although the horses in the Umamusume game don’t reflect actual events, the character Gold Ship is based on a real racehorse who was famous for being unpredictable and a bit of a troublemaker.
Okay, so this guy was a total nightmare in the races. He kept refusing to even start, messed around during the actual race, and took off way too early. The worst part? He straight-up didn’t feel like running fast, and it cost everyone a fortune – like, 83 million dollars! They’re calling it the ’12 billion yen incident’ because of how much money was lost. Seriously, what a troll!
