A recent rumor suggests we now know where the Fantastic Four will go after the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
I’ve been following the news closely, and it sounds like Marvel has big plans for the Fantastic Four! According to MyTimeToShineH on X, they’re already thinking about another Fantastic Four movie. Apparently, they’re hoping the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars films will really get fans excited for it. It’s great to hear they’re investing in the team’s future!
Even though the first Fantastic Four movie didn’t perform exceptionally well at the box office, Marvel is moving forward with a sequel after Secret Wars. According to MyTimeToShineH, they’re hoping to bring back director Matt Shakman and believe the team’s future appearances in Avengers films will boost ticket sales.
Directed by Matt Shakman and written by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer, The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a brand new part of the Multiverse. The film is set on Earth-828, a world with a retro-futuristic style, and tells the story of how Marvel’s Fantastic Four became a team while fighting against the powerful Galactus.
The upcoming movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, features a star-studded cast. Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby is Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn is Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm (the Thing). Julia Garner joins them as Shalla-Bal, also known as the Silver Surfer, alongside Paul Walter Hauser as Harvey Elder, the Mole Man, and Natasha Lyonne as Rachel Rozman.
When The Fantastic Four: First Steps came out in theaters, it received very positive reviews from both critics and general audiences. Currently, Rotten Tomatoes gives the film an 86% “Certified Fresh” rating, based on the opinions of over 400 verified critics.
The film received nominations for several prestigious industry awards, including Best Action or Science Fiction Feature at the 9th Annual Astra Film Awards. However, The Fantastic Four: First Steps wasn’t a huge financial success, earning just under $522 million despite a production budget of around $181 million. While this technically met the usual goal of earning two to 2.5 times its production cost, most large films need to cover all expenses – including production, distribution, and marketing – to be considered truly profitable.
When Will Fans See The Fantastic Four in the MCU Next?
The main actors from The Fantastic Four: First Steps are expected to reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year in Avengers: Doomsday. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18th and will officially introduce Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, a character briefly seen previously.
Joining Vanessa Kirby and Pedro Pascal in Avengers: Doomsday will be several popular actors from outside the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. This includes familiar faces from X-Men like James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and Patrick Stewart, who is reprising his role after first playing the character in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated to arrive in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
