The movie, a revival of the classic comedy series starring Leslie Nielsen, has become a big success despite initial skepticism from fans and criticism from original filmmaker David Zucker, who wasn’t involved in the new production. After performing well in theaters, it recently topped the charts on Prime Video and won the Best Comedy award at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday.
Released in theaters on August 1st, The Naked Gun received the best reviews of any film in the series and earned $102 million worldwide on a $42 million budget. It’s continued to be popular on demand, reached number one on Paramount+ when it started streaming, and is currently the most-watched movie on Prime Video, beating out newer releases like Sinners, Final Destination Bloodlines, and A Minecraft Movie.
Liam Neeson is now famous for his intense action roles, but he actually has a history in comedy, including the film A Million Ways to Die in the West. Because Seth MacFarlane is reviving The Naked Gun, casting Neeson was a smart move, perfectly blending action and comedy and utilizing Neeson’s talents. The film is finally receiving positive attention, but despite its success, it’s not certain whether Neeson will reprise the role of Frank Drebin Jr. in future installments.
Liam Neeson is Not Sure About Doing More ‘Naked Gun’ Movies

Paramount Pictures
Hollywood often tries to capitalize on successful movies, and though The Naked Gun wasn’t a blockbuster, it’s surprisingly remained popular. Unlike many summer movies that quickly disappear on streaming services and are soon forgotten, this funny film starring Liam Neeson continues to draw audiences.
Liam Neeson isn’t sure if he’ll return for more films in the series, hinting that this recent revival might be a single installment. This isn’t unexpected, as he already has several projects in the works, including the upcoming zombie comedy, Cold Storage, which could show audiences enjoy his comedic roles just as much as his action ones.
