The Traitors’ UK Added A Cool Twist That I’ve Been Hoping To See In The U.S. Version

Fans of The Traitors will have a new season to look forward to in 2026, but the show is already back for its fourth season in the UK. While we wait for the US premiere on Peacock, I’m really excited about a new addition to the UK version!

I’ve really enjoyed the first three seasons of the American version of the show, but it’s good that the game is changing to keep things fresh for new players and address fan feedback. I was excited to see the UK version add a feature I’ve been hoping for, and I’d love to see that same element – the “Secret Traitor” – come to the U.S. version.

The Traitors UK Added A “Secret Traitor” In Season 4

The BBC announced that the next season of The Traitors UK will include a fourth secret player working against the others. This new Traitor will be hidden from everyone – the other Traitors, the Faithful contestants, and even the audience – and will be identified by a red cloak.

The Secret Traitor will have a unique role: they’ll create a list of three Loyal players that the other Traitors can choose from as targets. To prevent accidental self-elimination, the Secret Traitor can’t include themselves on this list. The Traitors can regain their abilities by successfully eliminating targets, and they will eventually discover who the Secret Traitor is – though the timing and consequences of that reveal remain unknown.

I Would Love The Traitors To Have A Secret Traitor For A Couple Of Reasons

I was a little disappointed with how the Seer twist played out in Season 3, so I’m really hoping the U.S. version of The Traitors tries something different, like the Secret Traitor format. I’ve even written about how awesome it would be if we, the audience, didn’t know who the Traitors were from the beginning – though I have to say, the UK version’s take on that idea was brilliant and not something I specifically envisioned!

More On The Traitors

I’ve noticed some fans of The Traitors are really hyped for the new, regular-person season on NBC, which is cool. But honestly, I’m a little worried it might not live up to the magic of the celebrity version, and that it could even diminish how much I enjoy it. I’m hoping I’m wrong, but I’m definitely a bit nervous!

I’m really impressed with a move made on the UK version of ‘The Traitor’ – it’s something I’ve always wished we’d done! It’s a shame we didn’t come up with it ourselves. The internet would go wild if Donna Kelce turned out to be a secret player all along! Even without that, I’m excited to hear she was a strong competitor during filming.

It could be helpful that The Traitors UK is the first to try out the ‘Secret Traitor’ twist, allowing them to fix any problems before Alan Cumming hosts the version. The host has hinted at a particularly exciting moment in the next season, and maybe that will be enough – I might end up thinking the show is perfect as it is and doesn’t need any new additions.

You can watch The Traitors on Peacock, with plans starting at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. For an ad-free experience and the ability to download shows and movies, consider upgrading to Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus. Sign up today to start streaming!

Season 4 of The Traitors starts streaming on Peacock on Thursday, January 8th. I can’t wait to see the drama unfold, and I hope it’s just as good as the UK version!
