As a seasoned crypto investor with experience in both the private and public sectors, I’m thrilled to see Elliott Suthers join the team at Worldcoin. His extensive background in corporate communications and government policy makes him an invaluable asset for a project as ambitious as Worldcoin.

Formally of U.S. cryptocurrency platform Coinbase (COIN), Elliott Suthers now assumes the role of Communications Head for Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Worldcoin (WLD). Founded in 2019 by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, this innovative biometric crypto project is based on iris recognition technology.

Since 2018, Suthers has been part of Coinbase’s team and played a significant role during its transformation into a publicly listed company in the United States. With prior experience in government policy in Washington D.C., she contributed to the business expansion in this period.

The Worldcoin project has sparked controversy due to its “orb” technology, a chrome sphere resembling a bowling ball equipped with an eyeball-scanning lens. This device serves to verify the authenticity of new account applicants as humans rather than bots or advanced AI systems, according to Suthers’ email statement.

Suthers remarked, “There’s no ongoing project that can set humans apart from AI online while safeguarding privacy and fostering global democratic processes, potentially paving the way for initiatives like AI-supported Universal Basic Income. Most crypto projects cater to customer bases in the thousands or millions, such as exchanges or decentralized exchanges. Worldcoin, however, is considering how it can benefit billions of people worldwide.”
