Here’s Paul Thomas Anderson’s New Year’s Day Movie Marathon

There’s a saying that how you spend New Year’s sets the tone for the whole year, and those who attended Este Haim’s wedding to Jonathan Levin followed that with an epic movie marathon, suggesting 2026 will be a great year for them. After the wedding, director Paul Thomas Anderson curated a 16-hour film festival at the Ojai Playhouse. According to Page Six, the lineup was impressive, starting with Repo Man at 9 a.m. – a perfect remedy for a post-wedding hangover! The festival continued with Casablanca, followed by lunch, then Barry Lyndon in the afternoon. As evening approached, attendees watched Casino and The Birdcage, finishing with Father of the Bride. It’s safe to say Diane Keaton may have needed a rest! Interestingly, PTA’s own romantic drama, Phantom Thread, wasn’t included – a curious omission considering it would have been a fitting film to celebrate the new marriage.

I was so bummed to hear Taylor Swift couldn’t stay for the whole movie marathon! She had a busy New Year’s, celebrating a wedding and then heading straight to Kansas City on January 1st. Luckily, some other awesome people did manage to watch all the films, like Maya Rudolph, Donald Glover, Kesha, Ludwig Göransson, and of course, the Haim sisters – they’re always up for a good time!
