Well, it’s a bit of a rollercoaster for fans of Poker Face. The show was canceled by Peacock back in November as part of a larger wave of cuts in 2025, which was definitely disappointing. But here’s the interesting part: creator Rian Johnson (you might know him from Knives Out) is trying to find a new home for it! The plan is to continue the series with a third season, but with a twist – Peter Dinklage would be taking over the lead role from Natasha Lyonne. Now, Lyonne is finally talking about her decision to step away and whether she’d ever consider returning to play Charlie Cale. It’s a fascinating situation, and I’m eager to hear what she has to say.
Many were surprised when Peter Dinklage began discussions to play Charlie, while Natasha Lyonne would continue as a producer. However, it appears this was Lyonne’s intention all along. She recently told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s focusing on making movies, but is thrilled Dinklage is taking on the role.
Absolutely, and I’m a huge fan of Peter Dinklage. I love Game of Thrones, but I think Peter is just a fantastic person overall. Things are going really well! I’m especially excited to finally start directing movies – I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time. I’m also very thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to direct and write for television.
Natasha Lyonne is expanding her career beyond acting. She’s recently started directing, writing, and executive producing various projects. For instance, she directed three and wrote two episodes of Poker Face. Despite her new roles behind the camera, she still has several acting projects and other exciting work planned.
The actress, known for her role in American Pie, appears eager to pursue new interests and expand her career. That’s why she decided to leave her role as Charlie Cale. She explained further:
I truly enjoy my work and feel lucky to be doing it. Time passes quickly, and I’m aware that every day is precious. I’m focused on completing my current film projects, and I’m also really excited about a new sci-fi comedy show I’m working on with Matt Berry called ‘Force & Majeure.’ I need to get back to the writers’ room to finish the final episode now; we start filming in September.
Look, Poker Face is a fantastic show, and I’m already eager to see how Peter Dinklage handles the role if it comes back. But honestly, the bigger question for me is whether Natasha Lyonne could ever reprise her incredible performance as Charlie? Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like that’s completely off the table. Lyonne herself has hinted at what it would take to get her back – and I’m genuinely curious to hear what those conditions are.
I’d love to collaborate with Rian on a small music project – maybe an album or a single – whenever and wherever. I’m always open to working with him again.
It’s still too soon to speculate about Natasha Lyonne potentially returning to Poker Face, especially since a third season hasn’t been officially announced. However, fans can definitely remain hopeful! As a fan myself, I’m happy she’ll continue as an executive producer if the show gets renewed, and anything featuring Peter Dinklage is usually fantastic. Of course, he has a lot to live up to, considering how perfectly Lyonne plays Charlie.
As for where you’ll be able to watch Poker Face next, HBO is a strong contender to pick up the show, and HBO executive Casey Bloys has said they’re in talks about it. Bloys is particularly enthusiastic about potentially working with Peter Dinklage again after Game of Thrones. However, nothing is official yet, so we’ll have to wait for more news about the show’s future.
In the meantime, both seasons of Poker Face are streaming with a Peacock subscription.
