Ricky Banks, who helped start FaZe Clan, explained why he left the esports and entertainment group in July 2025. His departure followed the removal of another member, Temperrr, which was surrounded by controversy.
In spring 2024, Banks revamped FaZe Clan’s group of content creators, adding popular Twitch streamers such as JasonTheWeen, PlaqueBoy Max, and FaZe Lacy.
FaZe’s big changes were a huge hit! Their exciting subathon went viral and dominated the ‘Just Chatting’ section on Twitch.
In late July, Banks, a founding member of the group since 2010, announced he was leaving the company and disconnecting from the internet for good.

He announced on Twitter that he’s taking a break from FaZe and all online activity, explaining it’s negatively impacting his life. He admitted he isn’t sure if he’ll return, and has since deleted the tweet.
Following a controversy involving accusations of misleading fans with a cryptocurrency token, he has largely disappeared from social media. While he denied intentionally defrauding anyone, the scandal led to his withdrawal from public platforms in recent months.
Banks is ‘passing the torch’ to new FaZe members
On September 17, 2025, Banks finally explained why he left the group after a fan asked about his departure.
Banks confirmed he resigned from the company a month ago and stated he wants no involvement in public-facing activities for FaZe in 2025.
“My goal was to breathe new life into FaZe and pass the baton to a new group of friends who do content together. FaZe was dead and I simply couldn’t live with that. Mission accomplished, these new guys got it,” he continued.
He explained that his personal image and how he lives his life don’t fit with FaZe Clan’s brand anymore, pointing to his enjoyment of gambling and interest in cryptocurrency as the reasons.
Look, I’m not trying to be someone I’m not, and I definitely don’t want to pull the new team members into any of my personal stuff or drama. I’ve said it before, I’ll always be here to support them, and I’m a FaZe fan for life. Seriously, it’s all good – it always has been.

The statement from Banks comes after a major conflict within FaZe Clan, sparked by accusations from FaZe Rain that Temperrr acted inappropriately with a minor.
Rain has apologized for and taken back the accusation he made against Temperrr, who lost his job because of the controversy. Despite this, the two still have a strained relationship. Temperrr feels Rain has destroyed his life, and Rain continues to respond defensively on social media.
