Jonathan Majors’ Replacement For The Dennis Rodman Movie Has Been Found, And It’s A Knives Out Alum

Three years ago, Jonathan Majors was a highly in-demand actor with many promising roles. He was even chosen to play basketball star Dennis Rodman in an upcoming comedy film. However, legal troubles that began in 2023 caused him to be replaced. The film is still moving forward, and a new actor – known for his work in films like Knives Out and Get Out – has been cast as Rodman.

LaKeith Stanfield will play Dennis Rodman in the upcoming movie, 48 Hours in Vegas. The film, directed by Rick Famuyiwa and produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood, is based on the true story of Rodman’s unexpected trip to Las Vegas during the 1998 NBA Finals. According to reports, a Bulls assistant general manager joined him on the trip. Stanfield recently confirmed the news to Deadline, expressing his excitement about taking on the role.

I’m really looking forward to collaborating on a vibrant and meaningful project that celebrates and carefully considers the impact of Rodman and other pioneering figures. These were people who fearlessly followed their own path, overcoming challenges both in the past and present.

I wouldn’t have immediately thought of LaKeith Stanfield for this role, but it’s actually a really inspired choice. He’s definitely a talented actor, as demonstrated in films like Judas and the Black Messiah, Sorry to Bother You, and Uncut Gems. Plus, he’s great at playing unusual characters – remember his role as Darius in the popular show Atlanta?

I’m curious to see how committed John Boyega will be to the physical demands of playing Dennis Rodman. Rodman was very muscular during his basketball career, and Boyega has a naturally leaner build. Ultimately, though, it’s more important that Boyega captures Rodman’s unique personality and mannerisms. As a basketball fan, I’m hoping to see at least one scene of Boyega, as Rodman, actually playing basketball.

Jonathan Majors once explained why he really wanted to star in 48 Hours in Vegas before leaving the project. He was drawn to the role of Dennis Rodman, describing him as a unique and open-minded person. Majors was originally cast in 2022, but was later removed from the film in 2024 following convictions related to assault and harassment.

I’m still curious about the upcoming Dennis Rodman movie, particularly who else will star alongside LaKeith Stanfield. However, I’m definitely interested, knowing Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing, writing, and producing. Rick Famuyiwa, who co-wrote the script with Jordan VanDina, also has a knack for comedy, which seems perfect for this story. Hopefully, the whole team can make this movie a huge success.

As of today, there’s no confirmed release date for 48 Hours in Vegas. But while fans wait, they can watch The Last Dance on Netflix for a look at Dennis Rodman’s time in Vegas and the events surrounding it.
