As a crypto investor with a keen interest in Ripple and its key players, I believe that Brad Garlinghouse has been a pivotal figure in the company’s advancement, particularly in the legal arena. While Chris Larsen’s early commitment to the idea was crucial, it is Garlinghouse who steered the ship through the turbulent waters of regulatory challenges.

TL;DR

  • Ripple CTO David Schwartz considers this co-founder the most important person in the company’s history for his early commitment, among other reasons.
  • Attorney John E Deaton believes CEO Brad Garlinghouse has played a crucial role in the firm’s legal successes and should be labeled “CEO of the decade” if the firm goes public.

Who is Ripple’s Most Valuable Member?

David Schwartz, the CTO at Ripple, recently entertained X inquiries from users. One interlocutor presented him with a challenge: he could only identify one individual as the most significant figure in Ripple’s past from a list of five possibilities: Jed McCaleb (former CTO until 2013), Schwartz himself, Chris Larsen (Executive Chairman), Brad Garlinghouse (CEO), or others.

The CTO currently in charge made the decision to hire Larsen due to his unwavering dedication to the concept, even when it proved challenging. Moreover, he acknowledged that the Executive Chairman held a firm conviction in Ripple’s possibilities long before him.

Chris Larsen is a cocreator of Ripple Labs, the fintech organization responsible for developing Ripple and the XRP Ledger. He held the CEO position at the company until 2016, at which point he appointed Brad Garlinghouse to lead the team.

In December 2020, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) brought a lawsuit against Ripple, Garlinghouse, and Larsen for allegedly raising over $1.3 billion through the sale of XRP in an unregistered securities offering.

As a researcher, I’ve come across information that the watchdog chose not to pursue charges against the executives in October 2023. This marked Ripple’s third partial court victory. Some observers suggest this development may have shifted the agency’s role into that of an underdog in the ongoing lawsuit.

The legal dispute has progressed to its trial stage where both parties have submitted required documents and adhered to the magistrates’ guidelines. Jeremy Hogan, an attorney from the United States, asserted earlier this month that the briefs submission phase had been finished, leaving the entities in question to now anticipate the judge’s decision.

Garlinghouse’s Contribution to Ripple’s Advancement

According to John E Deaton (a well-known US attorney who stands behind thousands of XRP investors in the case against the SEC), Brad Garlinghouse should be put on the pedestal. He thinks the CEO has played the biggest role in Ripple’s achievements in the legal field.

Deaton made a strong case, implying that Garlinghouse should be considered among the top contenders for “CEO of the Decade” if Ripple files for an initial public offering (IPO) in the near future.
