Blade Runner 2049 Is Streaming on YouTube Premium

Over thirty years after the original film debuted, Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, directed the sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Released in theaters in 2017, the film is now available for fans to watch from home.

I was so excited when Denis Villeneuve made a sequel to Blade Runner, and it was amazing to see Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista, Robin Wright, Edward James Olmos, Jared Leto, and David Dastmalchian all in it! Now, if you’re like me and love the film, great news – Blade Runner 2049 is finally available to stream on YouTube Premium.

The film follows Officer K (played by Ryan Gosling), a new Blade Runner working for the Los Angeles Police Department. He’s a unique character – a replicant himself – and his job is to retire other replicants, making him central to the story and a symbol of how both people and replicants are changing.

The first Blade Runner film centers around Ford’s character, Deckard, who is ordered by his police superior to track down and destroy four replicants who have escaped to Earth. The sequel, Blade Runner 2049, finds Officer K discovering Deckard after he’s been missing for three decades. Blade Runner 2049 has been critically acclaimed, earning an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 400 reviews, and has an equally high 88% audience score from more than 25,000 viewers. The film grossed $277.9 million globally on a $150 million budget.

A Sci-Fi “Masterpiece”

Many consider the film a masterpiece, and a lot of its success comes down to the quality of the writing. As one reviewer put it, director Denis Villeneuve’s vision, combined with the beautiful visuals by Roger Deakins and the powerful music by Hans Zimmer, makes Blade Runner 2049 a captivating film for viewers.

Morganti noted the film consistently maintains a bleak and despairing tone, perfectly complementing its stark visual style. He was particularly struck by the raw and realistic depiction of violence and the film’s honest exploration of relevant social issues. The screenplay for Blade Runner 2049 was penned by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, based on a story by Fancher, and inspired by characters from Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
