A Taylor Swift-themed party in Florida is getting a lot of attention online, and people are comparing it to the infamous Fyre Festival. It seems scammers pretended to be representatives of one of Taylor Swift’s backup dancers, causing problems with the event.
Taylor Swift is a hugely popular singer, and when a bar in Orlando, Florida, announced a weekend event featuring one of her dancers, local fans quickly bought tickets.
The Lake Mary Pub and Tiki Bar planned a ‘Taylor Weekend’ from October 3-5. Although they advertised it as an ‘unofficial event’ in small text, they also announced that Kam Saunders, one of Taylor Swift’s backup dancers, would be appearing.
Lake Mary Pub announced on Facebook that they’re hosting a Taylor Swift-themed weekend full of music, fun, and memorable experiences. The event will include a special lunch, a performance, and a chance to meet performer Saunders.
Okay, so the tickets to this event were seriously expensive! I was checking it out, and a pass to meet Saunders himself was going for $300. If you just wanted to get into everything else happening all weekend, it was still $225 – definitely a chunk of change!
Taylor Swift fan event organizers lose thousands to scammer
It seems there was a misunderstanding – Saunders wasn’t scheduled to appear at Taylor Weekend 2025. He explained on Instagram that he has no connection to the event and hasn’t been involved with it at all.
I won’t be attending any of the events in Orlando, and I apologize to those who were hoping to see me there. I want to assure everyone that if you don’t see a post directly from me confirming my presence, it’s likely a scam.
Taylor Weekend Events, the Instagram page, responded with a statement saying they were also surprised by Saunders’ account. They stated they had a signed contract and a deposit paid, and the Tiki Bar’s Facebook page confirmed this.
Lake Mary Pub explained that they believe they were tricked by someone pretending to represent Saunders’ team, leading them to cancel Taylor Weekend. Eventbrite is now processing refunds for tickets bought through their website.
Tiffany Jeffords, the organizer of Taylor Weekend, told WFTV9 that she’d already put down $12,000 as a deposit for Saunders to appear as a special guest, and another $10,000 in other deposits.
The Lake Mary Pub also told YouTuber Atozy they’re working with the police about this issue, and they think Jeffords was specifically targeted by the people who committed the scam.
The disastrous ‘Taylor Weekend 2025’ event became a huge topic on TikTok, and even made local Florida news. News outlets interviewed people who had been scammed in connection with the event.
One Sheli Cordero, who was supposed to go to the event with her son, expressed sympathy for the bar and the people who organized the Taylor Weekend.
Initially, I was shocked and felt terrible for those affected. I wondered if they had been scammed, or if we had been too. I’m concerned about the lasting impact this will have on their reputations and the business involved, now that their names are public.
Saunders hasn’t commented further on the problems with the Taylor Weekend event, but this isn’t the first time a fan-run event has gained unwanted attention online.
A Willy Wonka-themed event in Glasgow went viral in February 2024, but not for the right reasons. Instead of the promised chocolate fountains and amazing treats, attendees found a nearly empty warehouse with a few plastic decorations, a small bouncy castle, and simple backdrops.
