Twitch removed a feature that let viewers quickly donate a large number of subscriptions (1,000) for around $5,000, after many streamers expressed their concerns. However, it’s possible the feature could return in the future.
Starting November 26th, Twitch allowed viewers to buy 1000 channel subscriptions all at once. Normally, this would cost $6,000, but Twitch is offering a special bundle with a $1,000 discount.
Emiru was among the first streamers to experience the new gifted subscription system, and she was initially surprised and unsure what was happening.
A viral clip showed the Twitch star baffled by the donation, calling it “crazy.”
Many creators immediately voiced concerns about the new gifted sub feature when it launched, citing several issues.
Streamers concerned Twitch will put viewers in debt gifting thousands of subs
Ludwig, a popular streamer, was one of the first to criticize Twitch, claiming the platform was introducing a new feature simply to increase profits from viewers.
Okay, so this streamer was going on about all the cool stuff Twitch has added over time – like Hype Trains, which are fun – but seriously, where’s a good mobile app? It’s kinda frustrating they can do all that fancy stuff but still haven’t nailed a decent app for phones.
Honestly, it feels like every new thing Twitch adds is just another way to get more money out of us viewers. Like, gifting subs – 200, 1000, whatever – and these Hype Trains and Treasure Trains… it’s just constant pressure to spend. Seriously, I’m begging them, just make a good mobile or TV app! The current ones are awful and it’s driving me crazy. I just want to watch streams, not constantly be asked to throw money at things.

VTuber Lucia shared her concerns that some viewers might feel pressured to donate more than they can comfortably afford.
She warned that streamers could find themselves in a difficult situation, especially considering Twitch is facing financial difficulties. She questioned why Twitch is increasing limits on gifted subscriptions, given that they already take 30 to 50 percent of streamer earnings.
I’m thankful to Twitch for helping me get started, but it seems like they’re prioritizing making money over everything else, and they aren’t sharing much information about their decisions.
I’m really thankful to Twitch for giving me a place to start, but it feels like they’re prioritizing making money over everything else, and they aren’t really keeping us informed about what’s going on. I just want to see the platform improve, not decline. 😔

Lucia and another VTuber, Akame, were also worried about a viewer requesting a refund from their bank, which is known as a chargeback.
Scammers often use chargebacks to unfairly get refunds and cost streamers money.
They said they’d be worried about getting that many subscribers. They explained that if someone requested a refund, it could leave you with a debt.
During the conversation, Twitch removed the ability to gift 1000 subscriptions. This probably happened because the platform is currently offering a 35% discount on subscriptions until December 1st.
It remains to be seen whether Twitch will restore the gifted sub count after the current promotion finishes, or if streamers have successfully requested that the feature be removed permanently.
