Stranger Things Creators Respond to New Monsters in Season 5

The creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, shared a few things for viewers to remember before starting the final season. They addressed whether fans could expect to see new monsters, but clarified that the conclusion will focus on the monsters we’ve already seen throughout the series.

Don’t expect any new monsters in Stranger Things Season 5

Just before the premiere of the first part of the final season of Stranger Things, creators Matt and Ross Duffer spoke with The Hollywood Reporter. These first four episodes, known as Volume I, will be available on November 26, 2025.

Matt explained that they discussed including monsters, but ultimately decided against it. The season already focuses on revisiting elements from previous seasons, and they didn’t want to add too much new content.

The creators decided to build on what they’d already created and focus on having fun with it. Ross Duffer explained they wanted to escalate things, similar to how James Cameron improved upon his film Alien with Aliens. They approached this season with that same idea in mind.

Because the show’s creators have said the new season will feature monsters from past seasons, viewers can expect to see lots of callbacks to earlier episodes. The Duffer brothers even suggested rewatching specific episodes from Seasons 2 and 4 before Volume 1 of Season 5, particularly for fans who can’t rewatch the entire series. These episodes contain important background information about things like the Upside Down and the history of Henry and Eleven.
