Players had varied responses to the announcement of The Duskbloods. This is largely because FromSoftware is known for games primarily designed for single players, with online features added in, not dedicated multiplayer games – particularly ones that would only be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2.
We recently got our hands on Elden Ring: Nightreign, which showed the studio is very capable in this area. Early details about their next project suggest it will be highly refined and potentially even grander in scope than expected.
FromSoftware’s longest-designed game
A Chinese journalist reports that FromSoftware’s upcoming game, The Duskbloods, took an unusually long time to develop – around 7 to 8 years. Content creator Ziostorm recently discussed these reports, noting that the game received internal approval before marketing even began for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This makes it the longest FromSoftware has ever spent designing a game.
This suggests that The Duskbloods is a major project for FromSoftware, particularly because Hidetaka Miyazaki is leading its development, which wasn’t the case with Nightreign. Unlike games like Bloodborne or Elden Ring, which built upon the Dark Souls formula, this new game probably demanded a completely fresh style of gameplay.
The journalist pointed out that after such a lengthy development process, the game should be truly groundbreaking. He believes it will introduce a lot of new features that could inspire other games, similar to how Sekiro‘s popular parrying system has been adopted by many recent titles.

FromSoftware hasn’t shared any updates about The Duskbloods since its announcement in April. We’re hoping to learn more after the release of the Elden Ring expansion, Nightreign, in early December, and potentially at The Game Awards ceremony, where they might show a new trailer.
