Earlier this year, Ubisoft mistakenly revealed plans for a Far Cry TV series, mentioning Rob McElhenney (from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Noah Hawley (creator of Alien: Earth) as being involved. Now, those plans are confirmed: a Far Cry television show is officially in development for FX and Hulu.
Based on reporting from The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming Far Cry series will be structured like the anthology show Fargo, created by Noah Hawley. FX explains that each season of Far Cry will feature a completely new location and cast of characters. Mac (formerly known as Rob McElhenney) will be an executive producer and lead actor in the first season.
Ubisoft’s official account for Far Cry quickly shared the news as well.
As you might expect from a Far Cry story, things are about to get wildly out of control. A new Far Cry anthology series is coming to Hulu, featuring a fresh setting, new characters, and plenty of the chaotic action your therapist probably warned you against. You’ll need it. Good luck!

Noah Hawley explained that he’s drawn to the Far Cry games because each installment feels like a standalone story, similar to how each season of his show Fargo explores a different take on a central idea. He’s thrilled to be creating a large-scale action series that can evolve each year while still delving into what it means to be human, all within a wild and unpredictable world. He’s looking forward to working with Rob and bringing their unique, bold vision to life on screen.
Mac said working with Noah Hawley is a dream come true. He also praised Ubisoft for their trust in giving them the chance to adapt such a beloved video game world, and expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from his team at FX.
While FX and Hulu haven’t yet said when ‘Far Cry’ will debut, showrunner Noah Hawley recently agreed to a new deal with FX and Disney that will also cover the second season of ‘Alien: Earth’.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced in September that future Far Cry games will focus more on multiplayer experiences. Currently, Ubisoft hasn’t revealed any details about the next Far Cry installment.
