A Marvel Cinematic Universe project from 2024 featured a lingering mystery that remains unsolved, even across other stories in the franchise. While fans were starting to move on from it, a recent post from the official Disney+ account unexpectedly brought the puzzle back into focus just weeks before the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released.
Disney+ Latinoamérica’s official social media account recently posted a simple question: “WHY IS THOR CRYING?” This is a clear reference to the upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine, which features a puzzling scene of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor shedding tears.
When the movie came out, a lot of viewers wondered why Thor seemed so upset, and Marvel Studios intentionally didn’t explain what was bothering him.
Ever since the movie came out, the question “Why was Thor crying?” has become a popular joke among Marvel fans. Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, has made references to it frequently since July 2024, and now Disney+ is bringing the joke back into the spotlight again.

In this particular moment, Deadpool (Wade Wilson) was at the Time Variance Authority, watching a screen. What he saw on that screen was himself – injured with half his mask torn off – being held by a weeping Thor.

As a huge Marvel fan, I got a kick out of a little moment in Deadpool & Wolverine. They actually used footage from when Loki seemed to die in Thor: The Dark World – you remember, when Thor was totally heartbroken? Deadpool noticed Thor crying in the footage and asked Paradox what was up, but Paradox cleverly shut it down, saying they didn’t need to jump to conclusions or get ahead of themselves. It was a funny nod to past events!
That answer, combined with Ryan Reynolds saying he knew why Thor was so upset, really led a lot of us fans to believe it was still an open question in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It felt like they weren’t quite telling us everything, and the mystery just lingered.
Is Disney’s Timing a Coincidence or Not?
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m feeling the slowdown – things are pretty quiet on the MCU front right now. We’ve got Wonder Man slated for January 2026, which is ages away, and honestly, it feels like there’s not much else happening. Because of that, it’s no surprise to see the official Marvel social media accounts really trying to keep fans engaged with creative posts – they’ve got to keep the conversation going somehow!
The post actually came from the official Disney+ account, not Marvel’s. Since Disney+ hosts a wide variety of content, and Marvel shows and movies are just a part of it, the post seemed a little unusual coming from the general Disney+ platform.
The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is expected to be shown before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which comes out in theaters on December 19, 2025. This timing has led to speculation that Disney+ might be hinting at a connection between Deadpool and the upcoming Doomsday film.
We likely won’t ever find out why Thor was crying in Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s probably going to become the MCU’s longest-running gag, which fits perfectly with the style of the Deadpool movies.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Deadpool pop up in the Doomsday trailer. Disney+ might be subtly suggesting he’ll be there, but honestly, the social media team probably doesn’t know what’s actually in the trailer.
It seems the Disney+ social media account was likely just joking around. But there’s still a chance we’ll see Deadpool and Thor in the upcoming Doomsday trailer.
