Everyone is talking about the TV show Pluribus, and as the central mystery surrounding the collective consciousness grows, we’ll find out more in the next episode, which airs this week.
Pluribus centers around Rhea Seehorn’s character, who is unique in a world where a virus has linked everyone’s minds – at the cost of personal choice, individuality, and free will.
The virus in the story seems to have originated from outer space, but the creator, Vince Gilligan, clarifies that this doesn’t automatically mean aliens are involved. Fans have come up with many interpretations, suggesting it could represent things like the rise of artificial intelligence, the divisive nature of modern politics, or even a story about addiction.
The show’s writers aren’t revealing much, so it’s up to the viewers to piece together the mystery of Pluribus. We’ll get our next clues when Episode 4 airs…

Pluribus Episode 4 will drop at 6pm PT/9pm ET on Friday, November 21, 2025, on Apple TV.

How many episodes are there?

The first season has nine episodes, but the show isn’t stopping there. Apple quickly approved two more seasons after winning the rights to produce Pluribus.
Okay, so the first episode, ‘We is Us,’ is all about this astronomer making a huge discovery that completely changes everything. And it’s really messing with Carol Sturka, this novelist who’s not exactly thrilled about this new world. Then, in the second episode, ‘Pirate Lady,’ someone Carol knows shows up and starts explaining what’s going on. It sounds like a bunch of people are meeting up in Europe, and things are getting pretty tense!
Episode 3, titled ‘Grenade,’ centers around Carol’s frustration with people trying to help her. The episode culminates in an explosive end to a personal conversation.
In Episode 4, titled ‘Please, Carol,’ Carol pushes the limits of this unusually truthful environment, damaging her pride in the process. Meanwhile, someone else discovers they aren’t as isolated as they thought.

What is Pluribus about?

Pluribus tells the story of a deeply unhappy woman who surprisingly becomes the world’s only hope to prevent everyone from becoming too happy.
Seehorn portrays Carol Sturka, a writer who unexpectedly becomes the focus of global adoration. Suddenly, everyone wants to please her, and the world transforms into a calm, harmonious, and exceptionally kind collective.
The story carries a hidden message reflecting Vince Gilligan’s views on current society. He explained to ScreenRant that the outcome—whether it’s positive or negative—is left for the audience to interpret. He asks if this future could actually be a kind of paradise, leaving it open to individual perspective.
I’m not going to explain how to interpret this, but I hope it makes people consider that there might be alternatives to the way things are currently done in the United States.
Ultimately, what viewers get out of the show is up to their own interpretation. As the creator explains, “It’s just television – it’s never been, and never will be, a solution to serious problems. However, I hope people watch and consider what kind of world they want to live in. We put a lot of effort into making this apocalypse story unique.”
You can watch Pluribus on Apple TV, and here are some other highly-rated shows to enjoy this month. Plus, we’ve compiled a list of the best TV shows released so far in 2025.
