According to a new report, two well-known heroes from Marvel’s movies are expected to fight each other in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. The rumor suggests a dramatic battle between Spider-Man, from the popular trilogy, and Wolverine, who is famous for his many appearances in Fox’s X-Men films.
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man rumored to take on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine
A post from X user @MyTimeToShineHello got fans excited about the upcoming Marvel movie, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. The user wrote, “Tobey Maguire vs Hugh Jackman OMG!” and “HOLY S—, Avengers Doomsday is going to be INSANE,” leading to rumors that both actors will be in the film.
After Tobey Maguire returned as Peter Parker in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home – alongside Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland – fans started wondering if he’d be in future Marvel movies. While Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed anything about Avengers: Doomsday, a source named @MyTimeToShineHello claims Maguire appears in the film using a completely computer-generated suit and shares scenes with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
A rumor that started on the “Nerdrotic at Night” livestream suggested Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man would be killed off relatively early in the movie Avengers: Doomsday. According to Nerdrotic, the scene would involve Maguire’s Spider-Man battling the X-Men (originally from Fox’s films), with the X-Men ultimately defeating and killing his version of the character.
Recent information contradicts earlier reports. According to Alex Perez, a source close to the film, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man survives the events of Avengers: Doomsday. This means the rumor that the Fox X-Men kill him in the movie’s opening scene is false.
Tobey Maguire originally starred as Spider-Man in three films directed by Sam Raimi: Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Spider-Man 3 (2007). Although Sony intended to make a fourth movie with Maguire, those plans were canceled. The studio then restarted the series in 2012 with The Amazing Spider-Man. Maguire reprised his role in No Way Home, sparking renewed discussion about a possible Spider-Man 4.
If the reports are accurate, any future movies featuring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man would have to be set before the events of Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed any of this.
