The Pokémon Company announced that approximately 10 billion Pokémon cards were printed just in the past year.
Wow, can you believe it’s been almost 30 years since Pokemon cards first came out? It feels like yesterday I was trading with my friends! And it’s still HUGE – the latest numbers show it’s a total phenomenon all over the world, even now in 2026. It’s amazing to see how popular it remains!
The company announced its financial results for 2025/26, showing that more than 85 billion cards have been made worldwide over the past thirty years, as of March 31, 2026.
More than 10% of all Pokemon cards were printed this year
The number of Pokémon cards being made is astonishing. Recent data shows that about 10 billion cards were produced just last year – more than the entire global population! In fact, Pokémon has been producing more cards than there are people on Earth every year since 2021.
The data also shows that over 11% of all Pokémon cards were printed in a single year—between April 2025 and March 2026—demonstrating the enduring popularity of the franchise.

Pokemon cards are incredibly popular with collectors, and people are constantly buying new packs and boxes, hoping to discover a valuable card.
The cards are incredibly popular, which has unfortunately led to scalpers buying them in large quantities and reselling them for much higher prices. To fight this, some stores are getting clever – they’re using tactics like requiring quizzes before purchases or opening packs right in front of customers at the register.
Despite efforts to prevent it, determined scalpers continue to find ways to buy up popular items – even going to extreme lengths like stealing displays or ignoring weather warnings. The Pokémon Company is now exploring solutions like requiring government identification to verify purchases.
