‘Zone of Interest,’ ‘Horizon’ on the Slate as SF Studios, Warner Bros. Discovery Ink Nordic Max Streaming Pact – Global Bulletin

SCANDINAVIAN STREAMING SURGE

As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for diverse stories and international cinema, I’m thrilled to see the dynamic collaboration between SF Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery. This partnership not only strengthens SF Studios’ distribution network in the Nordic region but also broadens the reach of their captivating local and international titles. The addition of titles like “Eagles of the Republic,” “The Nation’s Gambit,” and “Kingmaker” to Max is a significant win for consumers in the Nordic marketplace, providing them with a rich and diverse lineup of films. I eagerly anticipate the release of these titles and look forward to discovering more unique stories that SF Studios has to offer.

SF Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery have formed a content collaboration for the Nordic market. This agreement gives Warner’s Max streaming platform priority access to SF Studios’ domestic and international films after their theatrical and on-demand release periods.

The pact intends to boost SF Studios’ financing for Nordic films and broaden their viewership in the region by means of Max.

Upcoming titles include Tarik Saleh’s “Eagles of the Republic” starring Fares Fares, Norwegian crime adaptation “The Nation’s Gambit,” and Mikkel Serup’s “Kingmaker,” a sequel to 2004’s “Kongekabale.” International films like “The Zone of Interest” and “Horizon – An American Saga” are also part of the deal, starting mid-July.

“SF Studios announced that this partnership is crucial for their plan to broaden their film licensing and distribution reach in the Nordic region, while simultaneously providing a robust selection of both local and global movies to consumers in the Nordic market.”

TOONZ TACKLES TINSELTOWN

As a longtime lover of both literature and cinema, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about Toonz Media Group’s latest venture into live-action feature films, particularly their decision to adapt William Hazelgrove’s beloved book “Real Santa” for the big screen. Having grown up with a passion for both children’s entertainment and heartwarming holiday stories, this news has brought me immense joy. I can only imagine the magic that will be woven into the film, blending the enchantment of storytelling with the realism of live-action. It’s an experience I eagerly look forward to being a part of.

In this tale, we accompany George Kronenfeldt, an unemployed engineer, on his mission to convince his doubting nine-year-old daughter that Santa is real. The narrative delves into the depths of a parent’s determination to maintain the magic of childhood.

At the inception of Toonz’s feature film division in 2023, they assumed responsibility for managing every facet of production, from drafting the script to its screen adaptation. With plans to present this project at the forthcoming American Film Market, they are on the move. The agreement between Hazelgrove and Toonz was orchestrated by Allan Grafman, head honcho of All Media Ventures. As executive producers, Grafman and Hazelgrove will be instrumental in bringing this production to life.

TRANSGENDER TEENS’ TRIALS

The documentary “Changing the Game,” which was Emmy-nominated for both Foton.Pictures and Superfilms, is scheduled for release on U.K. streaming platforms following the Olympics. This thought-provoking film, helmed by director Michael Barnett and produced by Alex Schmider and Clare Tucker, chronicles the journeys of three transgender high school athletes as they balance sports participation, personal lives, and societal hurdles.

The documentary introduces three individuals: Sarah, an accomplished skier and policy maker, Andraya, a successful track athlete, and Mack Beggs, a renowned Texas wrestler. The film focuses on the challenges they face in dealing with cyberbullying and menacing threats.

“The film ‘Changing the Game’ made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival and went on to win several awards including the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary, as well as audience accolades at Outfest Los Angeles, Palm Springs International Film Festival, and Frameline San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival. Additionally, it was nominated for Best Sports Documentary at the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards and a Peabody Award.”
