Zombies 4: Wyatt’s Absence Explained, Actor Hopes for Future in Franchise

Enthusiasts of Disney’s Zombies series are thrilled to rejoin favorites like Addison and Zed in the upcoming movie, “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires”. Yet, some new characters from the original cast were absent, including Wyatt, played by Pearce Joza, who first appeared in “Zombies 2” in 2020.

In the fourth installment of “Zombies”, our original characters Zed, Addison, Eliza, and Willa find themselves caught up in a power struggle between daywalkers and vampires, all while on a post-college road trip. During a break from their own storyline involving Zed and Addison, they share updates about what their human and supernatural companions have been doing since the events of “Zombies 3” in 2022. While Zoey (Zed’s younger sister) and Wynter (a werewolf) are mentioned, it seems that Wyatt, another member of Willa’s pack, is not included in these updates.

Fans might find it surprising that Wyatt was missing from “Zombies 4,” especially since actor Pearce Joza seemed prepared to reprise his role. In an interview with The Permanent Rain Press in January 2025, following the filming of “Zombies 4” in 2024, Joza explained that the decision was ultimately Disney’s and the creative team’s to make, although he remained hopeful: “I’m very optimistic… he gets to live on forever,” he said, expressing his gratitude for being part of Disney’s legacy. Joza also expressed respect for longtime creators like David Light, Joseph Raso, and Gary Marsh, and if he ever receives a call from them, he promised to answer it promptly, just as Batman would respond to the Bat-signal.

On July 10, “Zombies 4” made its debut on the Disney Channel, with streaming becoming available on Disney+ the next day. The film features Meg Donnelly, Milo Manheim, Freya Skye, and Malachi Barton in lead roles. In this installment, we are introduced to unique monster types: daywalkers and vampires who must find a way to collaborate, much like the initial human-zombie dynamic in the series. Reports suggest that “Zombies 4” is initiating a fresh trilogy for the Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) franchise.

Why Is Wyatt Not in Zombies 4?

The fourth installment of the Zombies series, titled “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires,” appears to be transitioning the franchise by introducing a fresh group of characters. This shift in focus might mean that established characters were given less attention to give room for the newcomers to take center stage as future faces of the series. Interestingly, it seems intentional that Wyatt (played by Pearce Joza) is not mentioned, or reportedly not asked to return, among several other missing characters.

Although Wyatt, played by Joza, did not appear in “Zombies 4”, he hasn’t been completely left out of the franchise. In fact, starting from June 2024 on Disney Channel, there’s a new series called “Zombies: The Re-Animated Series“, where Joza voices Wyatt. This series takes place between “Zombies 3” and “Zombies 4”, but it doesn’t specifically explain why Wyatt is absent in the latter, as they are currently developing a Season 2.

In the fictional world, it’s possible that Wyatt developed a relationship with Eliza in “Zombies 3”. Interestingly, Eliza doesn’t refer to him in “Zombies 4”, suggesting they might have parted ways since then. However, they are together again in “The Re-Animated Series”. It’s also worth noting that Wyatt may not have been present at Mountain College in “Zombies 4”, indicating he might have chosen a different educational path from his monster friends.
