Zoe Saldana Wants To Direct An Action Movie: 'I've Never Seen A Woman Direct James Bond'

As a fan who has grown up watching Zoe Saldana grace our screens with her mesmerizing performances, I am thrilled to hear about her new ambition to direct an action movie. Her passion for heist-themed films is evident, and I can’t wait to see how she will bring her unique vision to life.

Over the past twenty years, Zoe Saldana has appeared in numerous action films such as Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Colombiana, among others. Now, Saldana is aiming to switch roles and direct an action film herself.

At the Toronto International Film Festival as reported by Variety, Saldana expressed that she’s never encountered a female director for James Bond. She enjoys “The Equalizer” and prefers watching crime shows. Thus, she hinted at her interest in possibly directing an action-heist film in the future, citing “Heat” as a movie she must watch yearly to appreciate its intricate plotting and superb acting by Michael Mann and his cast.

It might be a while until Zoe Saldana’s ambitions related to the Avatar series are fulfilled, as she still needs to complete work on the fourth and fifth installments of James Cameron’s Avatar saga. Although Saldana has already finished filming for Avatar: Fire & Ash, there’s no word yet about what will happen in the next movie. However, she did express her feelings about why these movies hold a unique significance to her.

Jim’s technology in ‘Avatar’ allows the performer to shine prominently throughout their performance, according to Saldana. In 2009, Jim was once again ahead of his time, as he is a scientist at heart, constantly creating tools that people need to grasp over time. He helped me understand that I should embrace this challenge. And in the end, whether or not people fully comprehend it, Avatar will continue to thrive and inspire generations to come. That’s Jim’s lasting impact, and I am proud to be a part of it.

Avatar: Fire & Ash will be released on December 19, 2025.
