Zoe Saldaña Says Marvel Movies Can Be ‘Deep’; She Wants to Reshoot ‘Avengers’ Movies Because ‘I Was Not Quite Understanding’ of Gamora’s Arc

As a fervent admirer of Zoe Saldaña‘s exceptional acting prowess, I find myself deeply moved by her heartfelt reflections on her journey as Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her candid admission about not fully grasping Gamora’s arc during the filming of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame” is a testament to the complexities of art and the human experience.

Actress Zoe Saldaña recently chatted with Tiana DeNicola on the show “EbMaster’s” for a round of “Know Their Lines.” During their conversation, Saldaña admitted that while filming “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” under the direction of the Russo Brothers, she didn’t fully grasp Gamora’s storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Zoe Saldana expressed a desire to redo the scenes where Gamora was portrayed in the ‘Avengers’ films, as she didn’t fully grasp what the Russo Brothers were aiming for at the time. She acknowledges their skills as filmmakers and appreciates the chance they gave her to develop Gamora’s character so significantly. If she had known then what she knows now, she would have put more effort into those scenes because it was a rare opportunity to play a troubled daughter trying to reconcile with her father or choosing to leave him behind.

In 2014, Saldaña made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Gamora in James Gunn’s blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy”. She later returned to portray the character in two follow-ups of “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the “Avengers” series.

Saldaña shared her thoughts on joining Marvel, stating that despite popular belief that Marvel movies aren’t ‘deep’, she finds immense satisfaction in being involved with films that appeal to a younger audience and serve as an inspiration for them.

She continued by saying, “What [James Gunn] accomplished was truly remarkable.” We were all supposed to be outcasts with past traumas, physical impairments, and mental health struggles. He allowed these characters to be embraced and form a bond through their friendship. In hindsight, this film holds great significance for me now.

Saldaña doesn’t plan on returning to Marvel following “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in 2023, yet she envisions potential opportunities for a fresh take on Gamora in future big-screen appearances.

In her interview for EbMaster, Saldaña expressed her hope that a woman of color would be chosen to portray Gamora. She believes this choice would bring something fresh and exciting to the character, much like how she brought Nyota Uhura to life with the approval of Nichelle Nichols.
