Zig Zag unveiled two fresh long-form projects under their revamped lineup: the TNT Sports docuseries “Playing for Tomorrow’s Sake” and the resurgence of “The Football Academy,” now focusing on the Tottenham Hotspur training program, for the BBC.
Today, the two commissions beautifully reflect the daring narrative and imaginative spirit that defines Zig Zag, encompassing solutions to worldwide issues as well as recognition of human drive and ability,” commented Danny Fenton, CEO of Zig Zag, regarding today’s developments. “This marks the start of a new epoch for us.
Working together with discovery+ and TNT Sports, “Playing for Our Future” delves into how climate change affects various sports. This compelling documentary is backed by energy supplier Utilita and collaboratively created by Infinitum Entertainment and AMS Media Group. The project will expand its reach through extra content on digital and social media platforms, focusing on football, rugby, cricket, cycling, and motorsport.
In this revised version, the language has been simplified to make it more accessible while retaining the original message.
The documentary titled “Extreme Weather Impact on Sports” will debut on April 1, 2025 at 10:30 PM, simultaneously airing on TNT Sports 1 and available for streaming on discovery+. This thought-provoking film is led by Dan Riley as director, with Danny Fenton and Matt Graff serving as executive producers. The program will be hosted by Reshmin Chowdhury, delving into the influence of extreme weather on both grassroots and elite sports. The film offers perspectives from athletes and climate experts to provide a comprehensive understanding of this pressing issue.
As stated by Matt Graff, managing director of Zig Zag, “Playing for Our Future” is a high-quality factual content designed to captivate on all platforms. This content aims to unite brands, broadcasters, and viewers in addressing sustainability issues within sports with an inclusive mindset. The goal is to present fresh viewpoints from the sport and entertainment world, reflecting Zig Zag’s commitment to innovation and forming deep connections with audiences. These values form our vision for creating content that makes a significant impact and pushes boundaries more powerfully than ever before.
In the fall of 2025, “The Football Academy” by Zig Zag will commence its third season on CBBC and BBC iPlayer, this time taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Academy. The show will carry on its backstage exploration of players aged between 9 and 17, featuring both boys’ and girls’ teams as well as para teams. With state-of-the-art facilities, the new season promises a detailed look into the lives of emerging footballers, following their exciting journeys.
Fenton stated, “The Football Academy has always been dedicated to honoring the enthusiasm, grit, and talent of young athletes. Transitioning to Tottenham Hotspur Academy lets us take this series to new heights, highlighting their progress at one of the world’s most distinguished football clubs. We’re pleased to carry on motivating our audience with authentic tales from backstage that epitomize resilience, camaraderie, and the sport’s future.
These initiatives underscore Zig Zag’s dedication to creative and influential narratives, tackling worldwide issues whilst honoring athletic prowess and aspiration.
