Denis Villeneuve’s new series is quickly becoming a hit on a popular streaming service, and there’s a clear reason why it’s gaining so much attention.

Both Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024) are currently among the ten most-watched films on HBO Max, according to FlixPatrol. While Sinners, a recent Academy Award winner, is currently number one, Dune is in sixth place and Dune: Part Two is close behind in seventh. This news comes just after the first trailer for the next installment, Dune: Part Three, was released.

This new movie is based on Frank Herbert’s classic 1965 novel, and it’s set on a dangerous and unforgiving planet. Timothée Chalamet plays Paul Atreides, the young heir to a powerful family, who is destined to become emperor. However, he ultimately sparks a widespread religious war, even though he doesn’t want to.

The film features Zendaya as the enigmatic Chani, Oscar Isaac as Paul’s father, Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as his mother, Lady Jessica, and Stellan Skarsgård as the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. When it was released, Dune was a huge hit, receiving rave reviews and earning over $411 million worldwide on a $165 million budget.

With the return of Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, and other familiar faces, Dune: Part Two also introduced new cast members like Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan and Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides. The sequel surpassed the success of the first Dune film, earning high praise from critics, performing strongly at the box office, and winning two Academy Awards for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.

Zendaya, who is back for the new Dune film, also spoke highly of her co-star Florence Pugh, even though they don’t share many scenes together. “I don’t want to give anything away,” Zendaya said, “but she’s truly amazing, and you’ll have to watch the movie to see what happens—it’s a pretty incredible story.”
