It appears that Zendaya and Barry Jenkins are collaborating on a movie for A24, titled “Ronnie Spector.” According to Deadline, Dave Kajganich (known for “Bones and All”) is scripting the film. Unlike a typical biography, this movie will delve into the feelings evoked by Ronnie Spector’s life with troubled producer Phil Spector, as depicted in her memoir “Be My Baby.

At the age of seventeen, Ronnie Spector first encountered the volatile record producer Phil Spector. The band formed by her sister and cousin, the Ronettes, experienced their greatest successes under Phil’s label. They got married in 1968. In her memoir, Ronnie Spector recounted that marriage to Phil was a perpetual nightmare. He would yell at her whenever she spoke, eventually silencing her. He subjected her to abuse, and he controlled her movements by holding onto her shoes so she couldn’t leave the house without his permission. Barefoot, Ronnie managed to flee in 1972.

Zendaya received approval from Ronnie Spector prior to portraying her character before her passing in 2022. In an Instagram tribute to the late singer, Zendaya expressed, “Ronnie, knowing you has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Thank you for allowing me into your world, I could listen to your stories endlessly. Thank you for your boundless talent, your unyielding passion for performing, your strength, resilience, and grace.” She concluded her post by stating, “I aim to make you proud.”
