Ahead of its release on October 30th and 31st, Tales of Xillia Remastered was featured in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu. The feature included an interview with Yusuke Tomizawa, producer of the Tales Of series, who discussed the development of Xillia Remastered, other remastered titles, and plans for a new, unannounced game in the series.
You’ll find details below about the remastered version of Tales of Xillia, originally a PlayStation 3 game. It’s now coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam.

A notable moment in this Famitsu interview came when they asked Tomizawa about the number of games currently in development for the Tales Of series remaster project.
We’ve partnered with several development companies, and currently have over two titles in the works, considering projects from early planning to final development. We’re aiming to potentially announce and release remasters of Graces f and Xillia in 2025, though that project is still ongoing. Development doesn’t always move at a consistent pace – speeding up one area might slow down another – but our goal is to get as many games to players as quickly as possible.
Famitsu: Does that mean you are going to announce the next entry in the project soon?
I apologize, but I can’t share specific information about our next project yet. We’re hoping to announce the next remastered title very soon.
When Famitsu inquired about the progress of Tales of Xillia 2 Remastered, Tomizawa explained that his team prioritizes releasing games as soon as they’re finished. Since the remaster is still being developed, they aren’t ready to announce it officially just yet. This highlights their focus on a quick turnaround from development to release.
Tomizawa explained that developing games for more platforms and languages creates additional challenges for the team. However, they are committed to making older games accessible to a broader audience with improved features, and understand these challenges are unavoidable.
Tomizawa observed that over 70% of Tales Of series fans are now outside of Japan. However, this isn’t because fewer Japanese players are interested – it’s simply due to the increasing global availability of gaming hardware. Interestingly, he also found that fans from other countries react to and enjoy the characters just as much as Japanese fans do. Therefore, the development team is choosing to focus on what makes the Tales Of series appealing in the first place, rather than trying to specifically cater to an international audience.
When asked about the future of the series and a potential new game, Tomizawa replied with the following:
It’s been almost four years since we released ‘Arise’ and two years since the ‘Beyond the Dawn’ expansion. As the ‘Tales Of’ team, we’re always brainstorming ideas for the next game, continuing the series’ tradition. While it will likely take some time before we can announce anything new, we’re actively planning and considering options alongside things like remasters, real-world events, and merchandise. Our goal is to keep sharing compelling character stories with our fans for many years to come, well beyond the 30th, 40th, and even 50th anniversary of the series.
