You never hear anyone say there are too many train games! While there are already train simulators, management games like Transport Fever, and even puzzles featuring trains, the possibilities for new train-themed games are endless. Now, a developer is trying something new with a simple, charming low-poly railroad game called *Train Goes Right*.
Go right, build rails, and enjoy physics
Train Goes Right is a relaxing railroad game with simple graphics where you only need to move forward. Created by a single developer, Molecular Cohesion, the game takes place during the early days of steam engines and lets you continuously build and run your own railway, piece by piece.
You’ll be felling trees, carrying logs, building tracks, and operating a steam train – all in a relaxed and realistic environment. Plus, you can play by yourself or team up with a friend online, locally, or even on a split screen for extra fun!
The trick to building stable wheels when Unity fails
Before releasing the trailer for *Train Goes Right*, the game’s creator showed how difficult it was to make the vehicle wheels behave realistically. Unity’s standard wheel tools weren’t working well, causing the hand cart – a key part of the game – to feel awkward and unstable.
Initially, the developer attempted to use standard skis, but this created a problem: Unity doesn’t easily allow for varying friction on different directions, causing the cart to slide uncontrollably like a “slippery box.”
The problem was solved by simulating realistic wheel behavior with a special program. Each wheel has its own code that creates friction to prevent sliding sideways, while still allowing it to roll forward and back. The key is to calculate the cart’s speed at the point where the wheel connects, not at the cart’s center. The program uses calculations to determine how much unwanted sideways movement is happening, then applies an opposing force directly to the wheel to stop it – but only when the wheel is on the ground. It’s a surprisingly simple and effective solution.
The simulation now feels very realistic and natural – the wheels turn smoothly and follow where you’re pulling the cart, preventing any awkward sideways movement. It finally feels solid and responsive, exactly as the developers envisioned, and I’m excited to try it out. While there’s no firm release date, the game is currently slated for 2026.
