YouTuber’s speech at Melee-themed funeral for Smash pro Hax$ draws death threats

A YouTube content creator, who’s recognized for uncovering controversies within the fighting game and Smash Bros communities, has been subjected to deadly threats following his eulogy at professional gamer Hax$’s funeral.

30-year-old Abdulaziz ‘Hax$’ Al-Yami passed away, just months after he intentionally stepped in front of an oncoming train, a decision made after he was barred from participating in competitive tournaments.

In the year 2021, Hax$ was permanently barred from most Smash tournaments because of several videos he produced that critically targeted professional player Leffen. Regardless of multiple efforts, there has been no reversal of this ban to date.

At Hax$’s funeral on April 5th, Smash pros Jason ‘Mew2King’ Zimmerman and Juan ‘Hungrybox’ Debiedma were among those who delivered emotional speeches. Yet, a YouTube user named Technicals has sparked anger within the community due to the content of his speech.

YouTuber receives death threats over speech at Hax$’s funeral

At Hax’s funeral, there were numerous tributes to his Melee gaming career. For instance, the venue was adorned with Smash setups, and many guests chose to wear red Adidas pants as a nod to one of his memorable tournament performances.

A tribute series for @ssbmhax. If there are any people missed in this, please be informed that these tributes are available.

“I pledge to you – to his family, to his companions – that I will strive to improve the community in any way possible, so we can prevent a loss like Hax from happening again.” -…

At the event, numerous admirers of Hax$ took turns to share their personal stories with him and found inspiration in his passing to elevate the community.

Hbox promised, to both his family and friends, that he would use every ounce of effort possible, to improve our community in such a way that we can prevent another tragic loss similar to Hax, from happening again.

I truly wish for there to be a heaven where he can go, and I sincerely hope our community can prevent such occurrences from happening again in the future.

“We can’t let this happen again, man,” echoed Mew2King.

In the meantime, Technicals, invited by Hax$’s mom, delivered an amusing speech, taking light-hearted jabs at individuals who had excluded the pro from tournaments.

Later on, through tweets he shared following the speech, it became clear that Hax$ had expressed disdain towards lobbying with organizers he perceived as “corrupt and unfair” for his reinstatement.

I’ve come here as a result of Smash taking the life of my friend. Even though I hope Aziz finds eternal peace, I’ve decided to ensure those who banned him will not get away with it.” (Technicals added: I’m seeking justice for my deceased friend and holding accountable the individuals responsible for his ban.)

As I sat there, soaking up the cheers in the packed venue, it seemed like everyone was on board with what Technical had to say. But, back in the digital world, things took a different turn. Online gamers started hurling threats at Technical, making me feel a bit uneasy about our shared gaming space.

“Technicals gotta die, bro,” one tweeted.

…another person concurred, noting that attending a funeral is an additional reason to be wary of Technicals.”)

One individual expressed disdain during Hax’s funeral, stating that the Smash community was responsible for his death. This sentiment is appalling and beneath contempt, commented another, who further added they hoped someone would give him a well-deserved beating.

In the face of these challenges, Technicals intends to produce a massive YouTube video centered around Hax$, shifting the content of his current video to address the Hax$ scandal instead.

I was engrossed in another task, arranging for various items including some essentials, but now my mind is only focused on this new matter. Please continue to send any crucial findings you discover.
